Elspeth Christina (Christine) Barron
(nee Calder)
1921 ~ 2023

Chris passed from this world on Friday November 17, 2023 at the age of 102. She was born near Holland, Manitoba on July 25 1921 to Elspeth and George Calder. She attended school in Swan Lake. Four days after graduation, Chris joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp, where she served from 1942 until 1946, a substantial portion of which was in London. With the War over, both Chris and Charlie Barron returned home from overseas and were subsequently married in September of 1946. Chris and Charlie had three children, Vicki, Wade and Sherry. At the age of 41, Chris decided to pursue further learning and studied business education at Red River College and the University of Manitoba. She went on to teach for 15 years. Sadly, Wade passed in 1979. Chris and Charlie lived at various times in Winnipeg, Morden, La Riviere and even ran an Ice Cream Stand in Vermillion Bay, Ontario for several years, where they also enjoyed the cabin life. Charlie passed in July 1991. After his passing, Chris remained a Manitoba resident, living in La Riviere and Morden.

In Chris’s own words “I had a great life with family and friends, skating, curling, pitching ball, singing and travelling.”

She leaves two daughters, Sherry Desender (Ron) and Vicki Ikert (Carson), 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and as well we must mention her dear friends and nieces, Eleanor De Ceulener, Marg Rhelt and nephew, Bill Watkins. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, son, Wade, two brothers, Willy and Jack, two sisters, Gretta Watkins (Charlie) and Kay Warren (Roy).
