Henry Bock
1931 ~ 2022

Henry Bock passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday September 20, 2022, at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 91 years.

Henry was born on February 19, 1931 to George and Katherina (Epp) Bock on the farm south of Crystal City, MB. He was the 2nd youngest of 7 children. He attended the Rosebud School up to grade 8. Henry attended Elim Bible School from 1946 to 1948. His faith and church family played a large role in his life. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith in 1952 at the Crystal City Mennonite Church. Henry married the love of his life Anne Marie Sawatzky on June 26, 1960, and with his new bride moved in with his parents to the family farm at Mather.

Dad worked hard throughout his life as a farmer. While living on the farm dad and mom always had many animals – cows, pigs and chickens to look after. They farmed at Mather for 37 years and retired to Morden in 1997. Dad and mom took many trips to Alberta, British Columbia, Nebraska and Oklahoma to visit family. They travelled to Calgary many times to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Henry was deeply devoted to his wife Anne Marie and his whole family.

After Anne Marie’s passing, Henry was happy to move to Bethel Place in Winnipeg to be closer to his children. He enjoyed 5 years living at Bethel Place and made many new friends. Following a stay at St. Boniface and Seven Oaks Hospitals, Henry moved to the Golden Door Geriatric Centre.

Henry is survived by son, Ray and wife, Marge of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Lucas and Machaela Bock of Lorette, Nathan, Levi and friend Katie Bernard of Winnipeg, daughter, Diane and husband, Darin Kinsman, grandchildren, Tyler and fiancé Hannah King, Caledonia and TeeJay of Calgary, Alberta.

Henry was predeceased by all of his Bock siblings and in-laws, Katie and George Friesen of Headingly, John and Katie Bock of Winnipeg, George and Helen Bock of Crystal City, Helen and Dan Neustaedter of Crystal City and Winkler, Nettie and Henry Falk of Crystal City and Herta and Alvin Peters of Winnipeg. He was also predeceased by Sawatzky in-laws, Abe Enns, Rudy and Elma Sawatzky, Alfred and Marge Sawatzky Anne Sawatzky and Art Sawatzky. Henry is survived by his in-laws, Verna Enns, Dorothy and Jake Pauls, Leona Sawatzky, Ron Sawatzky, and Harvey and Margaret Sawatzky and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Golden Door, who cared for Henry with utmost kindness and gentleness. We are forever grateful. If friends so desire donations in memory of Henry may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Canadian Food Grains.
