Abram Neufeld
1940 ~ 2022

Abe H. Neufeld passed away on September 17th at 5:33 pm. He reached the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 22 days.

He was born to Herman and Marie Neufeld on February 26, 1940, on the homestead, in the village of Hochfeld. This is where he spent his growing up years and attended school until grade 6. Dad was baptised upon the confession of his faith on May 30, 1966, in the Winkler Reinland Mennonite Church by Rev. Cornelius Nickel and he married Mom, Nellie Penner, a few months later, on July 17th . Dad had several jobs, and one took them to Winnipeg and then back to Winkler again, and in 1973 back to Hochfeld where they raised their family. Growing up on a farm, Dad learned the value of hard work and working together with others to get the job done more efficiently and quickly. Dad was a hard worker and on his own hobby farm there was work to be done like, cutting and stacking wood for the winter, planting and harvesting crops, making hay for the animals, hauling bales into the hayloft, just to name a few. Eggs and cottage cheese were taken to town on Saturdays to sell to the seniors for an extra income and they were often sold, along with cream, to family, friends, and neighbors. Dad teamed up with Uncle Harry and they worked together on each others farms to make the workload easier for both of them. With time the 7-acre farm was getting to be to much for Mom and Dad, so they sold it and moved to town in April of 2007. On August 9th, 2016, they lost their son Abe, and Dad was heartbroken. This is when we really noticed his Dementia show itself and it has gradually gotten worse. He was hospitalized several times to give Mom a rest, but she faithfully took care of Dad because she couldn’t see him go to a care home and she felt that this would have a negative affect on him.

Dad was predeceased by his son Abe (August 9, 2016), grandson Eric (January 23, 2021) and great-grandson Nathan (January 23, 2021). He was also predeceased by his parents Herman and Marie Neufeld, siblings Jacob, Mary, Herman, John, Elizabeth, Rose, Jake, Tina, and Alvin. He is survived by his wife Nellie (nee Penner), daughters Mary (John) Janzen and their children Renata, Nathan and partner Kiesha, daughter Ember, and Kurtis; Nellie (Cornie) Neufeld and their children Joel, Jared, and Joshua; Rose (Leonard) Harder and their children Matthew, sons Danny and Odin, Bradley, Christianna (Joshua) Teichroeb, children Krystal and Declan, Mark, Shaina, and Joseph; daughter-in-law Eva and children Bailey, Neveah, and Zariah and Eva’s partner. He is also survived by siblings Walter, Harry, George, and Eva. Mom and Dad were married for 56 years and 2 months.

On September 6th at 3:30 am the ambulance was called, and they came to help pick Dad up off of the floor because he fell out of bed and Mom could not help him. The Doctor’s were unable to find any reason for his failing health. On September 8th Dad quit eating and his body started to shut down. He started calling for Jesus to take him home and on Saturday the 17th God answered his prayers. While in the hospital these last 2 weeks, we spent numerous hours singing for him which he really enjoyed. Even though he had a hard time speaking, when the song had a chorus, he would sing along the best he could. The two songs he especially liked were ‘When The Roll is Called up Yonder’ and ‘Jesus Loves Me’ and when we finished singing, he would continue to sing and we would then sing it again. Dad wasn’t raised in a Christian home, but he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour and professed Him to the end.

We want to thank the nurses, Dr Brett, Pastor John Janzen and his wife, paramedics, Wiebe Funeral Home, and everyone who came to visit and upheld us in prayer. Until we meet again at the feet of Jesus!! The Neufeld family
