Maria Volk
1935 ~ 2022

On Friday February 4th 2022, Maria Volk peacefully in her sleep passed away at the Winkler Boundary Trails Health Centre, after suffering a severe stroke.  She reached the age of 86 years old, and is now reunited with her husband, sister and her mother. We’re sure she’s happy to be with them.

Maria was born to Maria Hilda and Isaj on August 3rd 1935 in Kramatorsk, Ukraine. When she was 2 years old her father passed away. Not long after, in between 1942-1943 during WWII, she along with her mother, her sister Alena, were taken from German soldiers to be moved to Germany. They stayed there until 1946. During that time in 1946, they were then taken from Russian soldiers and moved to Siberia into a labor camp, that they were not allowed to leave until 1952. While in Siberia, we believe, Maria lost her sister Alena around 1949 (cause of it unknown). In October 1955 she married Wendelin Volk, and they welcomed two children named Walerri, and Maria. They continued to live in Siberia until 1979, and the moved back to Ukraine. They lived there until 1983. From 1983, they decided to move to East Germany with the whole family. After her daughter Maria got married, they moved to West Germany in 1989, with the whole family again.

In 1991, Maria Volk lost her mother. A few years later, her husband Wendelin Volk became sick and had 9 strokes. In 2003 he passed away after his final stroke. He has been resting peacefully since then. In 2007, her daughter and her son in law decided it was time to move to Canada. After they had moved in 2008, Maria Volk decided to come and visit many times over the years. Going back and forth, she enjoyed the summer very much, as she loved gardening and flowers. She also enjoyed the beauty of the winter, and the snow falling on to the trees. After her last visit, she decided to extend her visit and stay until she would have been able to fly back. Maria Volk has seen a lot in her life, moved around countries a lot in her life. She loved her family dearly. She always made sure everyone was fed, everyone had a good time, and everything was always clean in the house. Messes were not okay.

Surviving her are her children, Maria and her daughter’s husband, Juri and her son, Walerri, her grandchildren, Riccardo, Daniel and Angelique, her great-grandchildren, Enrico, Phillip, Vanessa, Victoria, Nathan and Kaitlyn, her grandkids’ spouses, Olga, Marina, and Johann.

We also wanted to give a special thanks to the nurses, and doctors at the Boundary Trails between Winkler and Morden, that have tried everything they can for her, and kept her as comfortable as they possibly could. We thank anyone who is supporting us during this difficult time. We are extremely appreciative of you, and we thank you very much.

Mother, and Grandmother, and great-grandmother, we as a family, we miss you dearly. We will keep you in loving memory. We are so happy that you are no longer in any pain.
