Allan Paul Sutherland
1945 ~ 2020

Allan Paul Sutherland, age 74 of Morden Manitoba passed away peacefully at his home on April 3, 2020 with loved ones by his side.

Paul was born to parents Allan and Ethel Sutherland (nee Swan) on May 2, 1945 in Winnipeg Manitoba.

While working at the Odeon theatre, Paul met the love of his life Dorothy (nee Fehr) and they were married on October 29, 1965.

Paul is survived by his wife, Dorothy and children, Naomi (Elaine), Candace (Matt), Allan (Tanya), Crystal (Tim), Justin, Dustel (Dan) as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother, William (Lori) and his sisters, Penny and Erin (Ron) along with his brother-in-law, Don Fehr, and sisters-in-law, Marie, Anne, Hilda, Darlene, Sandra and many loving nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Allan John Sutherland and Ethel Harriet as well as sister, Willo Schroeder. Dad was also very close to his predeceased parents-in-law, David and Mary Fehr, brothers-in-law, Matt, Dick, Jim and Ed.

Paul was an accomplished CAD technician who retired from the University of Manitoba in 2010 after a long career in the design, drafting and inspection industry. Paul also spent nine years working at CFB Shilo and carried those friendships with him throughout his life.

He will be sadly missed by many. Dad had a gift of quietly opening his home to those he loved with a favourite dish lovingly prepared. Right up to the weeks before his death he could be found BBQing, baking buns, preparing his special homemade spaghetti and meatballs or making waffles with ice cream and homemade syrup. The last years of his life dad delighted in sharing his cooking secrets to those around him.

Dad spent his spare time with his family, working on various construction projects and on his art. Dad’s paintings can be found in the homes of family, friends and in many public locations. His style and interest evolved through the years but in recent times his love of animals came out in his art. Dogs, cats or birds were always found in his home and he is sadly missed as well by his dog, Ember.

A special thank you to the Physicians and Health Care professionals at Cancer Care Manitoba and in particular Dr. Dahla, who enabled Dad to have his final wish and pass peacefully at his home.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Paul. Dorothy and I were good friends during our teenage years. We later met up in Calgary and renewed our friendship. I became close to Paul as well. We had many good times and I cherish those memories. Rest In Peace my friend. You will never be forgotten. Our condolences to Dorothy and her family.
