Mary Goertzen (nee Derksen)
1924 -2020
Mary Goertzen, age 95 passed away on March 26, 2020 at Salem Home.
Mary was born on September 28, 1924 to Isaak and Katharina Derksen and lived in Neuendorf, Russia till the age of one. After immigrating to Canada, she grew up in southern Manitoba; the middle child with eight brothers and five sisters. Mary received Jesus as her personal Saviour at the age of 14 and her trust in a faithful God has sustained her lifelong. Mary was married to Isaac Goertzen for almost 60 years and together they farmed in Reinfeld, working hard and raising their family. They retired to Winkler, and after the death of her husband in 2009, she continued to reside in her own house until the age of 94. She was a gentle woman who touched the world with beauty.
She was loved and will be dearly missed by her family: John, Linda and Don Hiebert, Marie, Erna and Albert Heide, Edwin, Leonard, Frieda and Rick Wall, Mandy and Mike Slobodian, Jake and Alyssa Knelsen and Jeff as well as 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by two sisters, seven sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband, Isaac, Angela Knelsen, Jody Goertzen and John Goertzen.
The family is thankful for the loving care mom received from staff at Home Care, BTHC, Buhler Villages West and Salem Home. Thank you for those of you who brought joy to mom through your visits. Thank you to Wiebe Funeral Home for arrangements. Interment at Reinfeld Cemetery.

Linda, My condolences to you and your family in the loss of your mother. I am so glad for those few minutes with you and your mom at Salem a few weeks ago. I loved hearing from your mom that she and my dad spent their early school years in the same country school. I especially loved how her eyes sparkled and how her face broke into a very big smile when she talked about having been mischievous at school.

Linda and Don and Goertzen family, I'm sorry to learn you cannot have all the family and friends around you right now to share in remembering your beautiful mother. I'm praying you will find solace in God's presence, and that He will keep your legacy of love strong and true. "Gott mit euch bis wir uns wiedersehen." Kathy and I give you our condolences in the loss of your mother. She had a spirit of generosity with a contagious smile, comparable to that of my mother (Tina). May the Lord give you strength in this season of sorrow, yet joy.

No one could plant and tend a flower garden like Aunt Marie - sweeps of colour and texture, creatively planned so that there would be new blooms throughout the growing season... a garden that blessed the beholder.

Thinking of all of you.

Our condolences to your whole family, as you grieve the absence of your mom....until you meet again in heaven. And especially to Linda, Erna, Mandy, Frieda and families..... we will miss seeing you at Salem when you were visiting your mom and we were visiting our dad. May you feel God’s arms of love giving you comfort and peace as you grieve the loss of ‘a life well lived’ by your dear mom.
