Eileen Harriet Blatz (nee Zacharias)
1958 - 2020
Eileen was born in Altona, MB on April 27, 1958 to the late Abe and Mary Zacharias. She spent her childhood with her two sisters, Eunice Salmonson and Eleanor (Howard) Friesen and completed her education in Winkler. Upon confession of her faith, she was baptized at the EMM Church in Winkler. After high school, she attended Winnipeg Bible College (Providence), then worked at a childcare centre in Kansas in 1977. A few weeks before leaving for Kansas, she met the love of her life, Dan, and in 1979 they were married. They celebrated their 40th anniversary together last year.
After living in Kitchener, ON for two years, they moved back to Manitoba and raised their three kids: Donica, Alyssa, and Jared. Eventually, they gained a son-in-law, Marvin and their precious grandsons, Andrew and Michael.
During our growing up years, Mom found different ways of using her gift of compassion and gave of her time doing volunteer activities like Craft Coordinator at Manitoba Pioneer Camp, mission trips to Nicaragua and Cross Lake, and co-leading the library ministry at church. Mom loved the medical field and enjoyed her time as a ward clerk at Bethel Hospital and later, a paramedic and career skills facilitator. Mom was wonderfully creative and in her spare time she dabbled in painting, card making, and many other crafty projects. She also found joy in gardening, canoeing, time spent at the lake, and time with her family at Club 500.
In late 2017, she was diagnosed with cancer and on Wednesday March 18, 2020 with her family by her side, Eileen entered into glory and met her Saviour face to face.
The family would like to thank all the family and friends who have been a huge support with prayers (we’ve been carried through this journey by them), cards, flowers, meals, and words of encouragement. Words will never tell how much they meant to us. We’d also like to thank the CancerCare/Palliative staff at BTHC, as well as Dr. Kidane and his staff at HSC for their excellent care. Ultimately, we give God the glory for her life well lived. She got the “WELL DONE!” designation when she entered the heavenly reception party in her honour.
At Eileen’s request, donations can be made to Manitoba Pioneer Camp.

Donica, a wonderful message and service! You honoured your mother with stirring tributes, memories in photos, and beautiful art show. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family, as you grieve her passing.

I did not have the privilege of knowing Eileen personally. However, I have been blessed that over the past few years I have come to know her daughter, Donica as a caring, compassionate, educator-scholar as she pursues her graduate degree. In as much as children may reflect their parents, I am sure Eileen was a wonderful person. May you know God's grace and peace in extra measure in this season of loss.
