Katherina Klassen (nee Letkeman)
1933 ~ 2019

Katherina was born October 13, 1933 in Schanzenfeld, Mexico to Cornie and Maria (nee Reimer) Letkeman. She had four sisters and four brothers and is the last surviving member of the Letkeman family. Mom was baptized in faith June 8, 1952 by Bishop Isaac Dyck in Gnadental, Mexico and was married to John A Klassen on August 30, 1952 by Rev. Dave Wiebe in Neuenberg, Mexico. They celebrated 46 years, eight months and 12 days together. John and Katherina immigrated to Canada in March of 1954.

Mom loved cooking for her family and friends. She loved her grandchildren and they blessed her life daily with visits and phone calls. Mom and dad loved to travel especially back to Mexico as often as possible. Once dad’s health started to fail, they moved to Park St. and enjoyed their time there. They loved sitting outside on the lawn chairs in the summer and visiting with neighbours. After dad’s passing, mom moved to Lion’s Manor for seven years and made many friends. She loved doing crafts with the ladies there and the lunches together. Her health started to fail, and she needed to be moved to Tabor Home in March of 2018. She found it hard to make this transition because she was very independent. She enjoyed the staff as much as they enjoyed her. She waited for visitors which was the highlight of her day and always welcomed homemade food, especially soup. Mom enjoyed listening to hymns and Gospel programs. Her health slowly started failing this past summer and the last two weeks went very rapidly. The last couple of days she suffered greatly and never complained. Her faith remained the same through it all. Her reminder to the children was to always go to Sunday School and church and don’t ever forget to pray (she was very clear on that). We sorrow not as those who have no hope but fully believe that she has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour to enjoy the beauty of Heaven forevermore.

She is survived by five sons and five daughters and their families as well as Mary and George’s three sons and their families: son, George (Barbara), son, Cornie (Judy), daughter, Tina (Len) Clase, daughter, Betty (Ron) Peters, son, John (Nettie), daughter, Helen (Doug) Steinke, daughter, Susan, (Ike) Thiessen, son, Peter (Cheryl), son, Jake Klassen, daughter, Sara (Peter) Wall. Mom was predeceased by her husband, John A Klassen in May 1999, her daughter, Mary Rempel, son-in-law, George Rempel, one granddaughter and one grandson.

Mom went to her eternal home on Sunday November 24, 2019 at 6:32 a.m. with family present. She lived 86 years one month, 11 days.
