Alice Madeleine Waddingham (nee Lowry)
1922 – 2019

Alice Madeleine Lowry was born June 15, 1922 in the Barclay district north of Darlingford, MB. Her parents were Alex and Adeline Lowry (nee McElroy). Grandma was the second oldest of four girls and one boy; Mary, Madeleine, Beatrice, Joseph and Ruth were the order of their arrival.

Grandma had just recently celebrated her 97th birthday. Grandma married Grandpa, Russ Waddingham on December 15, 1939 and raised four children on the family farm, south of Darlingford. Grandma and Grandpa had four children: Myrna, Donna, Hugh and Ray. Myrna married Ed Holenski and they reside in Morden. Myrna has two children, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Donna resides in Morden and shares her life with her extended Barnet and Kreuger families. Hugh married Betty Strong and together have five children and eight grandchildren. Ray married Tina Enns and together they have three children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Grandma and Grandpa lived on the family farm until 1967 and touched on all aspects of farming. From chickens to cows and of course grain farming. They worked very hard to provide for their family. Grandma also spent many hours working as an aide at the Morden Hospital. She also worked at Best Photography, Voths Dress Shop and Morden Motor Inn as well as also lending a hand to any and everyone who may have needed it or not. Grandma had many hobbies including painting, sewing, ceramics, quilting, crocheting, babysitting and tending to her flower beds. She took great pride in watching all of her grandchildren but had a special place in her heart for Devin. Grandma was predeceased by her parents, three sisters, husband and one great grandson. She is survived by her only brother, Joseph and his wife, Jennie, her children, ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed old time music, dancing, card games as well as traveling. They spent many hours on the highway on their trips visiting Arizona, Texas and a few road trips to the west coast. Grandma entered Tabor Home in the fall of 2014 and to the new residence in November 2017 where she was looked after by the fantastic staff. She always marveled at the way the place was so neat and tidy and the way the caring staff always had a smile on their face.

Grandma passed peacefully with family by her side in the wee hours of Sunday July 14, 2019. There is no more pain and no more suffering! Rest in Peace Grandma Mad, you will be greatly missed.

I have many happy memories when I worked at the Tabor Home, of madeleine's determination to always have her hair just right, things tucked in and all in the right places. She and I often giggled when she told stories of her disciplinary strategies that she used to curb people's incline to swear or talk negatively. I often reflect on the gratitude she showed for the smallest gestures of others. The world will be an emptier place without you Madeleine. I
am blessed to have had the opportunity to spend time with you.

My sincere sympathy to Madeline’s family. What a wonderful lady! I will always remember her for the cookies she’d bring to Tabor Home while she visited Russ and also for her strong determination and independent nature! I’m so glad to have known her, may she Rest In Peace.
