Elsie Juanita Thiessen (nee Dyck)
1974 - 2019

Elsie Juanita Dyck was born on August 24, 1974 in Blue Creek, Belize, to Jake and Eva Dyck. She was baptized in 1992 at the Blue Creek EMMC. In 1993 Elsie moved to Manitoba, Canada to attend Steinbach Bible College. It was here that she met her future husband, Jake Thiessen whom she married on March 23, 1996. During this time, her mom and younger brother and sister came from Belize to join her in Manitoba.  Jake and Elsie spent their first year of marriage  in Oregon, United States at Bible College, where their first child was born. From there they moved back to the Winkler area where they welcomed 6 more children, living several years in Haskett, then in Winkler, and in 2008 moved to a country home 2 miles north of Winkler.

Elsie was hardworking and loved being outside, working with her garden and flowers. She was also very creative and was not afraid to try her hand at any new task. Everything she tried turned to gold...she was gifted at crafting, painting, sewing, embroidery, quilting, soapmaking, jewelry making, putting together bouquets and vegetable sculptures, cooking, photography and her latest hobby was carpentry. When praised for her work she would humbly reply that anyone could do it, but we knew she was gifted.  Elsie was a caring and spunky mom, not easily angered, but easy and fun to tease. She loved babies, and especially looked forward to having “the cutest grandbabies ever”. Elsie was a fun-loving wife, faithful, understanding, devoted, and a wonderful helper to "her man" of 23 years.  She also had a sense of humor, which showed even in her last days, when she would say things that made us laugh as we were caring for her.

In December 2018, Elsie was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer.  After much suffering, she passed away on Saturday July 6, 2019 at Boundary Trails Health Centre in Winkler, Manitoba, Canada at the age of 44.  She was predeceased by her dad, a sister in infancy and father-in-law.  She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jake, her children, Amos (Rachael), Caleb (Chantelle), Abigail (Hunter Teichrib), Jodi, Dylan, Zachary and Mark and 2 granddaughters, Avril and Quinn. She is also missed by her mom, Eva Dyck, brother, Daniel (Anna) and their children, sister, Manda (David Zacharias) and their children. On her husband’s side she leaves behind her mother-in-law, Maria Thiessen, siblings-in-law, Sarah (Neil), Ben (Linda), Agatha, Tina, John, Rick, Henry (Nettie), Gretta (Richard), Dave, Abe (Sue), Willy (Cheryl), Danny (Margaret) and Darlene (Art).  She also leaves behind many close friends and relatives.

The family would like to thank the staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for their care and the many friends and relatives who have shown their love and support through this journey.

Our condolences to you, the family of Elsie Thiessen. We admired Elsie's incredible artistic abilities when she entered her handmade items in the Stanley Agricultural Exhibition. She had amazing talent as she carved God's nature...fruits and vegetables into beautiful sculptures. We pray for the Holy Spirit to send comfort.

Dear Eva and family
I am so sad to hear of your loss. I still remember how excited I was when Elsie was born. Somehow I felt like she was my little sister. I would have loved to know her as she grew up. Much love, Lucy
