Rudy Wilhelm Schmidt
September 9, 1925 – May 14, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rudy Schmidt, father, grandfather and great grandfather on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Boundary Trails Health Centre. He was predeceased by his wife, Mert, parents, Peter and Margaret (Schroeder) Schmidt, sister, Louise (Robert) Bray and brothers, Peter and Eddy. He will be missed by his daughter, Marlene (Martin) Evans, son, Dwayne (Caroline) Schmidt, grandchildren, Amanda-Jane Evans, Riley (Nichelle) Evans, Robert (Jordyne) Schmidt and Barron Schmidt, great grandchildren, Meadow, Birch, Fox, Titus and Winter Evans and Sidney Schmidt.
Dad enlisted with the Armed Forces at the age of 16. After his release from the army, he operated “Rudy’s Transfer”, doing pick-up and delivery services in the Elm Creek, Plum Coulee and Arnaud areas. He later went on to drive with Reimer Express in the 60’s. He built and operated the Marlindway Ranch in Falcon Lake from 1962–74. After selling, he continued to enjoy the summers at Falcon Lake with the family while staying at the seasonal trailer village. He then worked for Ross Realty and Block Brother Realty where he was often the top salesperson. Dad purchased and operated a family business, The Rennie Hotel, retiring in approximately 1990.
After his retirement, he and mom loved traveling, getting together with his brothers and cousins telling stories. Dad would always get everyone laughing and joking. Dad moved to Morden in 2012 to be nearer to Mom while she was in the hospital and spent the past six years living on his own. Dad’s passion was the Marlindway Ranch and horses. When teaching us to ride, Dad would always say “Toes Up, Heels Down” and those who ride, will understand. Dad will be missed by all. So Dad, “Toes Up, Heels Down”.
Cremation has taken place and as per Dad’s wishes, there will not be a service.
