Verna Ila Heppner (nee Page)
1936 – 2019

Mom was born May 26, 1936 in a little log house in the Charlton district of Ontario. The oldest of four daughters, Mom and her sisters were raised on that farm. Mom often spoke of the hard work, the pets, the large garden and the fun they had there. Attending school was such a hardship, especially in winter. Mom recalled freezing while having to walk around the lake and out of the valley to school. Mom loved the hilly bush areas of Ontario but when she married Dad in July 1961, she made the huge adjustment of moving to Morden, MB. Times were very hard, but they raised their four girls in and around the Morden area. In 1972, the family moved to Darlingford. This was a wonderful move for Mom. She made many friends and was active in the U.C.W., attended the united Church and the Evergreen Club. Mom loved her house and turned it into a warm and cozy home where she welcomed 12 grandchildren over the years. So many memories were made here and Mom blossomed in this community. When in later years we realized that dementia was creeping in, Dad pushed for them to move to an apartment in Morden. Leaving the Darlingford house was devastating for Mom. Mom and Dad stayed in the apartment in Morden for several years until Mom moved to Tabor Home. Mom loved the colour red, loved purses and shoes and her ornamental knick knacks. She had a green thumb and had many houseplants and flowers. Her children and grandchildren were her life.

Mom left us suddenly on Tuesday April 23, 2019 and will forever be remembered by her daughters, Velma (Sherm) Collins, Val Bissett, Laura (Robert) Buelow and Lynda (Russ) Peters, sisters, Shirley and Carolyn Page, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
