1950 - 2019

Dianna Charney, 68, passed away with her daughter by her side, on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Salem Home in Winkler, MB.

Dianna was born in Neepawa, MB on March 1, 1950. She was the daughter of David and Helena (nee Reimer) Woelke. Much of her childhood was spent growing up in Kenora, ON. Dianna held various jobs until health problems forced her to stop working. She was always particularly proud of her time spent as a security guard at a military base in Alberta. She lived in many locations throughout western Canada before eventually settling in Morden, Manitoba in 1980. Dianna struggled with mental health and many physical issues throughout her life. She had a love for music which began in her youth when she would perform with her brother on the radio in Kenora. All throughout her life she enjoyed playing accordion and piano and singing. She particularly enjoyed performing for others, and this continued into her time at Salem Home. She enjoyed playing bingo and participating in group activities. She accepted Jesus as her saviour as a teenager and enjoyed reading the Bible and attending Bible studies at Salem Home. Her favourite portions of Scripture were Psalm34 and the book of Ephesians.

She is survived by her daughter, Tammy and husband, Kirby Rietze, son, Cory and wife, Sandra Charney, grandchildren, Jena-Leigh, Lucas, Alexis, Samantha and Maxwell Rietze and Anderson Charney and one great grandchild, Jaxon, brothers, Barry (Edna) Woelke, Roy (Fran) Woelke, Larry (Eunice) Woelke and one sister-in-law. She was predeceased by her long-time companion, Henry Derksen, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service at 2:00 pm. on Tuesday January 8, 2019 at Wiebe Funeral Home in Winkler with interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens. Coffee and dainties following the interment at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winkler. Special thanks to the care givers at Salem Home, who always provided outstanding care and loving service.

I have sweet memories of singing with your mom at our old piano. She taught me a way of playing rolling chords - one of the skills that I still use today. Praying for you Cory and Tammy and your families.
