Peter Wall

1954 – 2018

On Monday August 6, 2018 Bishop Peter K Wall, aged 64, passed away at Boundary Trails Health Centre with his wife Mary by his side.

He was born on May 28, 1954 to Jacob and Anna Wall in Abbotsford, BC. He was the second youngest of twelve children. He spent his first few school years in Matheson, Ont. In 1965 they moved to Manitoba where he attended school in Schanzenfeld. He was always a cheerful energetic school boy. He had a strong faith even at a very young age and was baptized in 1975, in Chortitz at the Old Colony Mennonite Church, by Bishop John Wiebe. He then married the love of his life, Mary Friesen on August 17, 1975. He was a man of many interests from working at Southern Potato, butchering at Wholesale Meats, welding, construction to running a dairy farm with his brother Cornie in Hochfeld, MB. Then, in 1995, he started working alongside his wife for Mr. A.L. Friesen. He continued to work for the same company along with his wife until mid-January 2018. The last few years where already very difficult due to his health. The last fifteen years or so they worked at the A.L.G. Professional Centre, Main Plaza, and Oakview Terrace, where he did maintenance, yard work and many other jobs they requested of him. He really enjoyed his job and was a very big people person, always having an encouraging word for the down hearted and loved to make others smile. He was a very approachable man and you could see the love of God shining out of his face. He was elected as minister, in the German Old Colony Mennonite Church, on September 25, 2004 and ordained on November 14, 2004. Until then he served as a song leader for 25 years. After being a minister for almost seven years he was elected as Bishop on July 22, 2011 and ordained July 24, 2011. He worked hard in his ministry in the Church. He gave his all, always working for honesty, truth and striving for the will of his master, no matter what people said about him. He always did his best in whatever he did, for the Church or his earthly jobs, as though for the Lord. The last two years where exceptionally difficult for him in his ministry. Even with all the business in his life he always made time for his family.

He started fighting Prostate Cancer about nine years ago although he was only diagnosed in 2012. He underwent surgery and many different types of treatments with difficult side effects. This didn’t stop the cancer from spreading into his bones and overtaking his body. He was always strong and courageous, and the outside world could never see how sick he really was on the inside. He never doubted that this was God’s plan and he fully relied on his Lord and Saviour to carry him through his battle with cancer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, his children, Dennis and Marie and their children, Kathy, David and Jacob Wiebe and Henry and Laura and their children, Emily, Micah, Mandy, Annika, Marcus and Lynnea Wall as well as four siblings, John and Marge Wall, Henry and Anne Klassen, Jake and Marie Martens and Abe and Edna Wall. He was predeceased by one son, Peter in infancy, by his parents and parents-in-law, four brothers, three sisters, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday August 13, 2018 at the Reinland Mennonite Church in Winkler with interment at the German Old Colony Mennonite Church Cemetery in Hochfeld.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Woelk, the cancer care nurses, the doctors, nurses and health care aides in palliative care at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Wiebe Funeral Home, family and friends for all their care and support. May God bless each and every one of you.
