Peter Suderman

1927 – 2018

Pete was born in Eichenfeld, the firstborn of Frank and Marie Suderman. He lived and farmed in the Haskett-Reinland area throughout his working days with a brief period in Macgregor, MB. On June 13, 1954 he married Elsie Neufeld and they began a 57-year adventure together. He was a farmer from early on and continued till his retirement at 70 years of age. While he made his living farming, he was passionate about serving God in his family, his community and his church. He was a founding member of Bethel Church at Hochfeld in 1965 and was a leader in his church and various mission organizations. He donated not only his resources but also much of his time in hands-on missions. On July 27, 2018 he suffered a stroke at his home in Winkler and passed away on Tuesday July 31, 2018.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie in 2011, brother, Frank and grandson, Matthew. He is survived by his children; Brenda, Dennis and Leona, Garry and Patti, Ron and Margery, Rob and Hedy, 15 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren, siblings and their spouses: Margaret Suderman, Ike and Erna Suderman, Tena and Henry Neufeld, Abe and Barb Suderman and Mary Ann and Herb Loewen. He was a dear Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend and will be missed. However, we are comforted and encouraged by his long and productive life. He leaves a wonderful legacy for those he left behind. He assured us many times that he was ready for the next life and we are assured that he has gone on to his eternal reward.

Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 7, 2018 at Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church with interment prior at Westridge Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Pete’s memory to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.

Peter Suderman was a big part of m y life during my pastoral days at Bethel from 1971-182. We served together on ministerial, he was my landlord, we were good friends. His support was critical to the completion of my doctorate and return home. The wise preacher said, "A good name is better than oil and the day of death than the day of birth" (Eccl. 7:1). Reputation is what everyone leaves that matters more than any other achievement. No one leaves a better legacy than Peter Suderman, a reputation he lived well until his last day.

The wise man said, "a good name is better than oil and the day of death than the day of birth" (Eccl. 7:1). The legacy we leave is more important than any other achievement. No one has left a better legacy than Peter Suderman, a man who was more than a father in the days of my youth at Bethel and later.
