 Bernhard (Ben) Penner

1937 – 2018

On Wednesday June 6, 2018 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Ben Penner aged 80 years of Morden, MB went to his eternal rest.

Bernhard Penner was born December 18, 1937. He enjoyed his life here on earth being active in church activities such as serving on the church board, as a Boy’s Brigade leader and usher. He taught school for 35 years, first in rural schools and the last 25 years at the Morden Elementary and Maple Leaf Schools. Hunting, fishing and camping were much a part of his life. Other hobbies included activities at the Senior Centre with shuffleboard and various card games. We took part in the Manitoba Senior Games for many years. Ben had a hip replacement in 2012 which was not successful. He suffered pain with that right to the end. The lung surgery three years ago and this was cancer. For 14 years, we enjoyed spending winters in southern Texas, Magic Valley Park. Here we made new friends, were involved with church activities, learned to play outdoor shuffleboard, enjoyed picking fruit, shopping and crossed the border into Mexico numerous times. We also spent 30 years at Dryberry Lake Lodge in Ontario with family and friends. He said, “Life is good.” And God blessed us in so many ways.

Ben was predeceased by two children, Larry David at five months and Phyllis Marie at three months. He is survived by his wife, Marge, three children, Wendy, Douglas and David (Loretta), five grandchildren and two great grandsons as well as many relatives and friends.

Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday June 11, 2018 at the Morden Alliance Church with interment at Hillside Cemetery.

Thank you to all who helped us through this difficult journey; your love and prayers were a big help to us. God bless you all! If friends so desire, donations may be made in Ben’s memory to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation and designated to Palliative Care.

Mr. Penner was one of my teachers back in the early70's...he was such a kind man who had an amazing amount of patience and respect for his students. When I moved back to Morden almost 10 yrs ago...I would see him at the Morden Activity Senior Centre ...and I was still calling him Mr. Penner. He would say..."You know Gail, you don't have to call me Mr. Penner any more!"
It saddens me to know that he is gone.
My deepest condolences to you Marge and all the family. Gail Deere
