Erdman (Ed) Hiebert

1938 - 2017

Dad was born on July 19, 1938 to Abram N. & Maria Hiebert (nee Wiebe) in the Rosetown area.

In 1959 upon the confession of his faith that the Lord Jesus was his personal Savior, Ed was baptized by Bishop Peter A. Rempel in the Winkler Reinland Mennonite Church.

On June 19, 1960 he joined hands with the love of his life, Mary Fehr and they were united in Holy Matrimony.  They shared joy and sorrow for 57 years, 3 months and 6 days.  They were Blessed with 4 sons, Wes, Bob, Dan & Kevin.

In their early married life they moved around a lot, to wherever his job would take him. Many years were spent raising the boys in Portage La Prairie where dad enjoyed camping with friends and family and playing baseball.  He worked at several different places such as mechanic at his own garage as well as working for others and trucking.  Later on in life they moved to the Winkler area where he enjoyed autobody work and driving school bus.  They spent several winters in Yuma, Arizona which was a highlight for dad.  Dad always looked forward to walking into Mexico to visit with his buddies there and bargaining with the locals.

On April 14, 2017, Good Friday, dad got sick in Church and was taken to Boundary Trails where they indicated he may have had a stroke so he was immediately transferred to the St. Boniface hospital.  Upon the completion of several tests, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  They told Dad he had about 3-6 months to live.  Dad came home on May 8 and enjoyed about 3 months of fairly good quality of life doing things like planting a garden with Mom and doing some small jobs around the house.  As time went on, dad became tired and confused so he was taken back to the hospital for a short stay to be built up.  He went home again on July 22 but on Aug.14 he was admitted to Boundary Trails for the last time.  On Monday, September 25 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 6 days, he went to his eternal rest.

He was predeceased by his parents, Abram N. and Maria Hiebert, one sister, four brothers and one brother and one sister in infancy. Dad leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Mary, their children, Wes (Betty), Bob (Mary Jo), Dan (Anna), Kevin (Rene) and their families, sister, Tina (Jake) Gerbrandt, sisters-in-law, Susan and Audrey, Aunt Tina Friesen, Aunt Mary Hiebert and many relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for the visits, phone calls, food, cards, text messages and especially your prayers.  May God Bless You All!  The Bereaved Family
