Elizabeth (Betty) Derksen (nee Unrau)

1925 - 2017

Elizabeth Derksen was born on October 6, 1925 to Jacob and Mary Unrau near Horndean, MB. She was the third child of twelve children. They were raised during the Great Depression and moved around a lot looking for work. On May 18, 1945, she married Dave Derksen of Horndean. They raised six children after settling in the Morden area. Dad worked many jobs and finally with the Department of Highways. Mom was a great stay at home mom. She cooked, cleaned, gardened and managed sewing, patching and canning. Their house grew from a small shack to a great two-story house and a beautiful yard on 2nd St. in Morden. Mom crocheted many blankets and quilted many bedspreads for all her children. She had lots of hobbies and loved doing anything new. Dad and mom travelled a bit before their health deteriorated. Some of their destinations included Calgary, Toronto and British Columbia. They loved to visit family and friends. They had been married for 69 years before dad passed away in November 2014.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Dave and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Jean, Bill (Tracy), Pauline (Ron), Kathy (Ike), Carol (Harv) and Ruth as well as 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

We will miss your feisty spirit, mom! Rest in peace. Love you forever.
