Thiessen, Jake

Jake Thiessen

1935 - 2016

Jkae thiessen sqOn Saturday October 22, 2016, Jake Thiessen passed away suddenly at his home in Winkler, MB at the age of 81 years.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 56 years, Anne (nee Wolfe), his two sons, Gerry and wife, Darlene and their two sons, Darryl and Paul, his son, Rod and his daughter, Cambria and Cambria’s mom, Audrey as well as his brothers and sisters and many nieces, nephews. You all know who you are and please know that Dad loved each and every one of you very much.

Dad was born on July 7, 1935 to Benjamin and Gertrude (nee Hiebert) Thiessen in Reinfeld, MB. He married the love of his life, Anne on October 20, 1960. Dad was a very hard worker and had many jobs in his life.  He worked at the Winkler Creamery, he was the produce manager at Gladstone’s, Dad and Mom co-owned a small corner store, Hi-Way Grocery in Morden, MB, the Main Plaza mall and finally at Winkler Wholesale Meats for the final 13 years before he retired in 1997. Dad loved sports; playing and watching, especially if it was the Leafs or Yankees or Packers playing. He and Mom would attend our baseball games and later on in life, their grandkids’ sports and activities whenever they could. Even in retirement, Dad liked to stay busy. He looked after the Friendship Centre and you could find him there almost every morning shooting pool. Dad had the biggest and kindest heart of anyone I know. Anyone he would see would be greeted with a friendly hello and smile every time. It was an honor for us to call you our Husband, Dad and Grandpa. We will miss you more than we could ever tell or show. Rest in peace, Dad. We love you very much.

Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday October 27, 2016 at the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church with interment at the Reinfeld Cemetery.

We would like to thank the Winkler Police Service and the paramedics for arriving so quickly and doing everything they could to try and bring Dad back. Also, thank you to Pastor John and his wife, Wanda, the ushers, pallbearers and servers at Dad’s funeral, Wiebe Funeral Home for taking such good care of our family and Dad as well as all our family and friends for all your thoughts and prayers. We, as a family really appreciate that and I know Dad would have, too. Donations may be made to assist the family.

We are so sorry for your loss. We loved your husband/father. Had many good times chatting as neighbors then in stores as we would meet. Good memories ... appreciated how he took such an interest in our family over the years. He will be missed - God's Peace
