Katharina Friesen (nee Thiessen)

1934 - 2015

FriesenKatharinaOn Tuesday December 8, 2015, at Boundary Trails Health Centre Katharina Friesen, at the age of 81 years went to her eternal rest.

Mother was born in Mexico on the 29th day of July in 1934.  She was one of twelve children. In May of 1954, at the age of 20, she and their family with a number of other Mennonite families arrived in Canada.  They arrived in Port Rowan, ON and did field work for the summer.  The family moved to B.C. for the winter to be with extended family. On July 1, 1956, Katharina married Peter Friesen. After approximately 1½ years, they and the extended family made yet another move to the Aylmer, ON area. Four children were born in Ontario. In 1963, their family moved to Rainy River, ON and from there moved to Manitoba where she lived until her death. Katharina Friesen reached the age of 81 years, 4 months and 9 days.

She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers in early childhood, her father, Cornelius Thiessen in 1968, mother, Anna Peters Thiessen in 2002, sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Peter Dyck, brother and sister-in-law, John and Helen Thiessen, as well as her brother-in-law, Clifford Boyko.

Katharina leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Agnes and Mary Ann, two sons, Peter and Cornie as well as 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, three brothers Cornelius (Kathy) Thiessen, Benjamin (Helen) Thiessen, Jake (Pauline) Thiessen, four sisters, Mary Boyko, Helen (John) Schroeder, Susan (Isaac) Schroeder, Sara (John) Rempel and their families.

Katharina's strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is what was central to her life. One of her favorite Bible verses was "For God so lovedthe world that he gavehis one and only Son,that whoever believesin him shall not perish but have eternal life."  John 3:16.

Funeral service Monday December 14, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Mennonite Church with Pastor Kevin Jamieson officiating.  Interment at the Rosenbach Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Boundary Trails Health Centre for their faithful service and care of our mother, Katharina. Also, thank you to Pastor Kevin Jamieson, pianist, Sharon Jamieson, food committee for serving the lunch, Wiebe Funeral Home for arrangements and to our many friends and family for their prayers, support, cards and visits. Thank you, the family.
