Margaret Sue Lafreniere (nee Hoff)

1951 – 2015

LAFRENIERE MARGARET sqIt is with deep sorrow that we announce Margaret Lafreniere aged 63, of Cartier MB, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday July 14, 2015 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years Joseph, daughters Julia (Tim) of Winnipeg, Katie (Mike) of Edmonton and son David of Winnipeg, grandson Austin, brother Steven (Shirley) Hoff of Firdale, sister Berniece Verduzco of Beaumont, Texas, nephew Harry (Nancy) Hoff of Stonewall, niece Christine (Bob) Robinson of Carberry, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Helen Hoff of Carberry and was looking forward to seeing them and many other loved relatives in heaven.

Margaret was born in Emmett, Idaho on December 6, 1951 and as a child enjoyed riding horses and travelling throughout the U.S. visiting with family and friends. Margaret played university basketball and went on to coach all three of her children's and grandson's teams. She retired from teaching in 2013 following a rewarding career and particularly enjoyed working with special needs and gifted children in Neepawa, Norway House, Portage la Prairie, The Pas and St. John Brebeuf Catholic School in Winnipeg Manitoba. Along the way, she made many lasting friends at all the places where she lived and worked. She was particularly close to her "Yahoo" buddies that she travelled with at least annually for the past several years, all of whom she'd known since grade school. Another group of ladies that she often spent time with and spoke of were "The FONS" friends.

Prayers were held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 4588 Roblin Boulevard in Winnipeg followed by a funeral mass on the following day at the same location. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Margaret’s memory to Humankind International (251-B Notre Dame Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3B 1N8) an organization which Margaret held very dear to her heart and served as a board member prior to and after her retirement.
