Jacob Bernhard Peters

1933 - 2015

peters jacob sq2Dad was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 1, 1933 to Bernhard and Margarette Peters of Springstein, Manitoba.  Dad was one of ten children: five boys and five girls.  Dad was predeceased by his wife, Elsie on January 1, 2009, his father, Bernhard, mother, Margarette, two brothers in infancy, his sister, Margaret and her husband, Herbert, his brother, Bernhard and his wife, Anna, his brother, Peter and his wife, Elizabeth. Dad grew up on the family farm at Springstein, MB where the family attended the Springstein Mennonite Church. Dad was Bapitized on confession of his faith and became a member of the Springstein Mennonite Church. Dad completed his education at the young age of 14, when he decided he was done with school and he was not coming back. Dad left school with the support of his father and worked fulltime on the family farm. When times got lean, Dad, starting at the age of 17, took jobs working in construction at the Sugar Beet Factory to help support the family farm. Dad was the last of his siblings to get married. He met Elsie Unrau and they were joined in marriage on July 16, 1960. They made their home in Springstein, MB and farmed there for 20 years and later moved to Oak Bluff where they operated a hog farm for six more years. In 1961, Dad and Mom became parents to their first son, Jack, Ben in 1962, Bill in 1964, Kelvin in 1971 and Len in 1976. In 1985, Dad became a Grandpa to the first of 14 grandchildren and lived to see five more added by marriage. In 1986, Dad and Mom moved to Winnipeg with their youngest two children, where they started a successful flyer distribution business. In 1999, they sold the flyer business and went on a four month holiday to Prince Edward Island, where Dad and Mom quickly found a church home and made many great friends. In 2000, Dad and Mom celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary by renting an island with a cabin on Lake of the Woods.  This weekend will always be remembered as a family highlight. Some of us remember this weekend because Dad was trying to get onto an inner tube to float on the water only to have it flip over backward sending him to the bottom of the lake and dad was right “he did sink like a stone”. Our mother, Elsie was called home on January 1, 2009 and dad lived a few lonely years until he met the 2nd love of his life, Anna Froese. After what seemed like a 24 hour courtship, they were married on June 11, 2011. As a bonus, Dad was blessed with two stepdaughters and their families. Dad had some health problems in his life but the worst were his lungs.  Considering he was a farmer with asthma, I guess it should not have been a surprise to him or us when he would struggle to catch his breath. Dad was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday May 6, 2015 after a two month battle with a failing heart, lungs and kidneys.

Dad is survived by his wife, Anna, children, Jack and Wendy and their children, Vic and his wife, Kris and their children, Nathaniel and Theodore, Dinah and her husband, Brian Luzny and Mark, Ben and Diane and their children, Derek and his wife, Nicole and their children, Brody and Jace, Kyle and Rene and their daughter, Lauren and Reed, Bill and Carolyn and their children, Tyson and his wife, Megan and Bryce, Kelvin and his children, Jackson, Lorraine, Johnathon and Rachel, Len and Cindy and their children, Catrina and Jayden, stepdaughter, Lisa and her husband, Garry Warkentine and their sons, Jordan and Joel and stepdaughter, Dorothy and her husband, Rob Penner and theirs sons, Scott and Dylan.
