Jacob Janzen

1930 - 2015

Jake Janzen sqJake Janzen was born June 10th 1930 the son of Jacob and Lena Janzen of Rudnerweide School District.  He had two sisters, the eldest Helen (husband, Henry Thiessen) and youngest Susie (deceased January 2015) (surviving husband, Alvin Bergen). He grew up on the family farm and moved ½ mile down the middle road when he married his wife, Jennie (nee Martens) on August 2nd, 1953. During their 61 years together, they had four children, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Dad and Mom often spent winters in Arizona and stayed as long as they could.  Many happy hours were spent with the snowbirds there and back in Manitoba during the summer months.  Everywhere he went, Jake enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee.

Farming with his family was his life. He was patient with teaching his kids how to drive the machinery. Later on he taught some of his grandchildren to drive standard on his Mazda truck. In the winter months he would often work either at Triple E or Grandeur trailer companies;

long distance trucking with his two sons was done in his middle years, preparing campers, painting trucks, selling trucks, getting vehicles ready for his sons to drive. In his 70’s, Jake and Jennie exercised their happy feet transporting trailers from dealers in Indiana to Alberta and BC until his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s. They left the farm five years ago and moved to Morden.

A week after Easter, he experienced a small stroke. Less than a week later, it was followed by a major stroke. Eight days later on Thursday April 30, 2015 at Boundary Trails Health Centre with his wife, Jennie by his side he passed away peacefully to be with the Lord.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Jennie, his son, Joe and wife, Marge and their children, Connie (her children, Taryn and Justice), Marcel and Shanna (their children, Charlie and Jack), Joe and Anna ( their children, Joanna who died at birth, Lucas, Austin and Bailey), Natasha and Terry; his daughter, Evelyn and husband, Werner (their daughter, Hailey); his son, John and wife, Mary (their children, Renata, Nathan and Kurtis); his daughter, Shirl and husband, Cordell and their children, Shaylen and Michael (their children, Axle and Avery), Nicholas, Garett and Christine, Deanna. He loved his family and they loved him back. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Rita Reimer (predeceased husband, Stan) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Sara and husband, Jake and one niece.

Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday May 4, 2015 at Winkler Mennonite Church with a private interment prior to the service at Rudnerweide Cemetery. Special thank you to the palliative staff at Boundary Trails Health Center, to Dr. Jackson and Dr. Nauca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jake’s memory to Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation and or Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
