John Peter Henry Heppner

1931 - 2015

John Henry Heppner was born in Morden Manitoba on June 10, 1931. And that would have made him 83 years and 10 months.  His parents were Henry and Katherina Hoeppner. John accepted Jesus as Savior and was baptized in 1951 in the EMC Church, McGregor Manitoba. John was raised in Valleyfield District.  He grew up with his three sisters, Tina, Nettie, and Gladys. Gladys, the youngest still has haunting memories of being terrorized by her older brother John and his cousin.  In his early adult years John and his first cousin Frank Dueck, worked on the pipeline in Alberta and Saskatchewan. John was undoubtedly one of the most patient men around.  John and Patience were two names that were always inseparable.  There was John, and there was Patience! John had an issue with the spelling of his name Hoeppner because of the way non-German people would pronounce it. So he had it changed!

John first met Mary in November 1964 at the Old Folks Home in Altona where Mary was working. In Halbstadt Manitoba on December 5, 1964 they were married! They have three children – Lorraine and Rod Garman at Allen Saskatchewan, Russell at Dakota Manitoba, and Barbara and Jack Thiessen and their sons Dylan and Jesse at Starbuck Manitoba.  The grandsons were the most special gift imaginable! John and Mary spent many great years working at Tri-Dyck Farms near Headingly.  The Dyck brothers, Pete and Jack, and Harry and Brian became like brothers to John and Mary as well.

After retiring from farming, John and Mary took great pride in their new work of yard care for Shelmardine’s.  John also loved manicuring Russell’s large lawn and in exchange Russell would take them shopping and run many errands. John’s hobbies were hunting, fishing and bowling. If you knew him well, you would know that he really enjoyed watching his TV shows especially his John Wayne movies. No matter how many times he had seen them he never got tired of reruns! John loved people.  He seemed to know everyone and always had a big smile and one of the heartiest handshakes for all! He touched so many lives. John and Mary have an absolutely incredible gratitude for Harry and Elaine Dyck whose countless visits, rides, medical expertise and advice and loving care are what carried them the later years!  Thank you!
