Abram Nickel

1939 - 2015

Abram NickelAbram Nickel was born on March 13, 1939, at Orlowo, Altai Region (Siberia), into the family of Iwan and Maria Nickel. He got married to Helena Reimer on December 12, 1961. The LORD gave them three children; two sons and one daughter. In the summer of 1977, Abram and his wife Helena together at the same worship service received the forgiveness of their sins and were saved.  The LORD had been working in their hearts for some time already.  In September of the same year both were baptized (by immersion) in the river and became members of the congregation by laying on of hands.  Abram served in the Church by teaching the Word and being a youth leader. At that time the persecution of Christians was very acute in the Soviet Union and Brother Abram was arrested three times for 10-15 days each for his faith and serving the LORD Jesus Christ. In March 1988 Abram Nickel and his wife Helena and the children emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany. They chose Augustdorf as their new residence. Abram became a member of the congregation of the Evangelical Christian Baptist Church at Augustdorf and was privileged to help with the construction of their prayer house. He also loved to serve in the kitchen. In December 2003, Abram and Helena emigrated to Canada to Winkler, Manitoba. In May 2004, he joined the Evangelical Christian Baptist Church at Altona, Manitoba and became a very loved and faithful servant of that congregation.  He taught the Word and participated in visitations. Abram always tried to help everybody who came to him and gave advice as much as he was able to. In December 2011 the LORD granted Abram and his wife to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Abram always was a faithful father, who prayed for the Church, his relatives, and especially for us children and grandchildren. On March 30, 2015, at 4:22 a.m. it pleased the LORD, whom he faithfully served, to take Abram home into glory. Our Husband, Father and Grandfather was 76 years and 17 days old.  The LORD granted him 53 years and 3 months of a happy marriage.

Abram leaves behind to mourn, his beloved wife, Helena, three children, Nikolai (Vera) Nickel, Helene (Peter) Plet, Johann (Nelli) Nickel; also 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, siblings, relatives, church and friends.

Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 2, 2015 at Bethel Bergthaler Mennonite Church with interment at Rosengart Cemetery.
