John Walter Reimer

1936 - 2015

 

ReimerJOHNsqOn Saturday March 7th, 2015 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, John Walter Reimer, aged 78 years of Winkler, MB formerly of Chortitz went to be with the Lord.

John was born on November 5, 1936 in Chortitz, MB to John and Mary Reimer. He was baptized on the confession of his faith on May 26, 1958 by Reverend Cornie Nickel in the Reinland Mennonite Church in Winkler, MB. He married the love of his life, Helen Elias in Osterwick Sommerfeld Church on May 28, 1961. They lived in Winkler most of their married life where they raised four children: Robert, May 12, 1962, Bernice, January 30, 1965, Doris, November 18, 1967 and Mervin, June 3, 1976. He worked at Winkler Creamery, Kroeker Farms and the most recent at Nu-Steel Industries retiring in 2002.  During his retirement years he enjoyed volunteering at Salem Home as well as working on the farm for Bill Penner cultivating and driving the truck at harvest. He also loved music and singing. He played autoharp with the Pembina Players Orchestra and enjoyed singing with the local and mass choir of the Sommerfeld Church. John really loved family gatherings. Having his children and grandchildren around meant a lot to him. He often told them how much he appreciated them. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and camping with his family in his early years. He had a deep passion for the Lord and his faith was strong.

He leaves to morn his passing his wife, Helen (nee Elias) and his children, Doris Wall (Jake) of Winkler and Mervin Reimer (Nettie) of Chortitz, five grandchildren, Amanda Wilson (Derek), Chelsey Wall, Rhonda Wall, Aaron Reimer, Angela Reimer and one great-grandson, Xavier Wall as well as one sister Mary Dueck (Harry). He was predeceased by son, Robert and daughter, Bernice in 1969 and grandson, Paul in infancy in 1989 as well as his parents, John and Mary Reimer, two sisters, one brother, one niece and one great-niece.

Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday March 12, 2015 at Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with interment at Winkler Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Unit.
