Garry James Penner

1956 - 2015

DSC 2669 11x14Garry Penner, aged 58, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Saturday, January 24, 2015. He passed away peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Centre after a well fought battle with cancer. Through all Garry faced, he chose to rejoice in the Lord for all of His blessings, right to the very end.

Garry was born in Winkler, Manitoba on March 29, 1956 during a huge snow storm requiring mom to be driven to the hospital in a bombardier. After spending their first couple of years sharing a house with Grandma Neufeld in Blumenfeld, he was thrilled to have her move to Winkler shortly after they did and spent many memorable days running over to Grandma’s house for a visit. He married Chin Mei (Kang) on May 18, 1985 and they lived in Winnipeg for 12 years. During that time they welcomed their first child, daughter, Rachel, born Christmas Day 1994. Their son Gabriel was born March 19, 1997 and six months later the family moved to Gnadenthal, Manitoba. Some of Garry’s favorite past times included singing, playing guitar, listening to gospel music, photography, wood working and riding his motorcycle. He loved gardening and we remember how thrilled he was to walk through his orchard and share his bountiful harvest. He enjoyed people and never tired of visiting with them or lending a helping hand when opportunity arose. Garry liked to travel and the family enjoyed a memorable road trip together this past summer, which took them to Seattle, Washington. Garry was a beloved husband, father and brother, predeceased by his father, Jake in 1994 and his mother, Eva just this past May. He is survived by his wife, Mei and their children, Rachel and Gabriel. Also surviving are sister, Connie (Harv) Dyck and their children, Mandi (Adrian) Flores, Stephanie, Dustin and Samantha, sister, Wendy (John) Froese and brother, Dwayne (Cheryl).

Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday January 29, 2015 at Christian Life Centre in Morden with interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Garry’s memory to Stella’s Voice.
