Gerhard J Rempel

1937 - 2014

gerhard Rempel sqOn Saturday February 8, 2014 at Salem Home in Winkler, MB, Gerhard Rempel aged 76 years of formerly of Manitou, MB went to his eternal rest.

Gerhard Rempel was born on October 9, 1937 to Jacob and Helena Rempel of Mexico. He lost both his mother and stepmother at a young age. In 1957 he married Anna Knelson and they were blessed with two children before leaving Mexico. After moving to Ontario, they were blessed with four more children. Dad was always known as a hard worker and it was proven by the many hours he spent after work building their new house. He always had a passion for farming so in 1975 the family moved to Roland, MB to fulfill his dream of farming his own land. In 1980 he purchased a bigger farm south of Darlingford and continued doing what he loved best, farming. In 1992 his wife passed away suddenly which left him extremely sad and lonely. The LORD was gracious and brought Katharina Fehr into his life and they were soon married. In 2005 they moved to Winkler to retire. A few years later their health began to decline and once again dad would feel the pain of losing his wife. Mom passed away in August of 2013. During this time, dad was diagnosed with dementia. This only added to his loneliness and confusion as he was moved several times. Finally on February 8, 2014 his loneliness and confusion came to an end as he peacefully slipped into eternity to be with his Saviour. Ephesians 2:8,9 says, “ For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Dad is survived by three sons and three daughters and their families, five stepchildren and their families, 39 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, one stepsister, and two stepbrothers.

Funeral service was held at 2:00 pm Tuesday February 18, 2014 at Sommerfeld Church Winkler, MB with interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at BTHC, Altona hospital and Salem home for all the care that was provided for dad. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Gerhard’s memory to the BTHC Palliative Care.

He will be remembered as a hard working, kind and patient man.
