Wiebe, Jacob F

Jacob F Wiebe

1925 - 2014

WiebeJakefsqDad was born on June 7th, 1925 in the RM of Rhineland to Jacob D and Helena Wiebe. He was raised on the family farm together with his eight siblings and a cousin. Dad was the 2nd oldest and loved to talk about the fun they had growing up. Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith on May 25th, 1945 in the Sommerfelder Church. On July 22, 1945 he married the love of his life, Katherine Friesen.  Mom and Dad first lived with Mom’s parents and then moved to their own home in Horndean.  Dad was the manager of the Co-op store for a number of years till they moved to Plum Coulee in 1958. It was here that they purchased their own grocery store called Crossroads Service, where they raised all four children in the house that was attached to the store.  Dad worked hard but really enjoyed spending time with the family, especially camping. He loved sitting around a campfire and having hotdogs. He was a man who loved food! Mom and Dad really enjoyed travelling and were able to do a number of trips. In 1985 Mom and Dad built their retirement home on River Avenue in Plum Coulee where Dad enjoyed gardening. They moved to Winkler in 1997 where they made many new friends at the Winkler Senior Center. Dad loved to laugh and have fun. In December 2013 Mom and Dad moved to Crocus and that was a big change for them. Due to declining health and mobility this last year has been difficult. On October 22nd 2014, Dad was admitted to BTHC where he was diagnosed with extensive cancer. After a number of strokes, Dad finished his earthly journey and passed away peacefully on December 15th.  Even though Dad was not able to attend church for quite some time, his faith has always been very important to him and his desire was that everyone in his family would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He modelled what it means to be a godly husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dad was confident that he was going to see Jesus and we look forward to the day when we will join him.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine with whom he enjoyed 69 ½ years of marriage, his daughter, Ruth and Bill Thiessen and their children, Merlin and wife, Jean with Johanna and Sam and Brendan and wife, Karen with Keera and Kylee, son, Dennis and Betty Wiebe and their children, Curt and Jen and husband, Ben with Wyatt, daughter, Carol and Ron Neisteter and their children, Bryan and Chris and wife, Sharlene with Caleb and Zack, daughter, Rhonda and Glenn Banman and their children, Holly and Tyler and wife, Vanessa. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

We want to thank all the nurses and doctors at BTHC for the loving and compassionate care they gave to our father, especially to Dr. Caswill who has been his doctor for many years. We also want to thank Pastor Glen Siemens and others from the church who supported and helped Mom and Dad.  Thanks also to all who supported us through prayer, calls, food and flowers.
