Wood, Carol

Carol Wood (nee Jespersen)

1944 - 2014

Carol Wood Obit photoCarol Wood, passed away peacefully at the age of 70 years on November 26, 2014 at home in Morden, MB with her family.

Carol was predeceased by her sister Anne, Mother Grace, and Father Andreas.  She is survived by her husband Jim, Sister Shirley (Roy), Brother Brian (Monika), sons Pryce (Nadine), Ryan (Stephanie), Jeff (Melanie) and grandchildren Madison, Zachary, Hailey, Greyson, Larsen and Ailsa, along with many nieces and nephews.

Carol was born on June 6, 1944 in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Her family moved shortly thereafter to Oak River where they lived on a family farm. Carol went to school until grade 11 in Oak River, then took her last year of Grade 12 at a private school in Flin Flon Manitoba. From there she moved to Winnipeg and took a two year Administration course from Red River and following that, took a job working with handicapped children and adults until she married Jim on June 25, 1966 in Oak River. They moved to Russell, Manitoba where Jim began teaching and Carol took a job with McMurray Insurance agency. In 1969, Jim and Carol embarked on a new journey, moving to Morden, Manitoba, where they spent most of their married lives raising their three sons, who were all born there. They made many friends in the community through work and going to the St. Thomas Anglican Church. Carol worked at the Morden Library, the former Bank of Montreal and finally for the Federal Government Employment office in Morden. Due to some government changes, Carol’s job was moved to Brandon and as Jim was retired, they moved to Brandon. Once again, they made many friends and enjoyed their lives in Brandon for 15 years, making many close friends. Jim and Carol moved back to Morden to be closer to the grandchildren in 2012 and Carol spent those last few years getting involved once again at St. Thomas and spending time with friends and family until her passing.

Carol was an amazing lady and touched the lives of most everyone she met. She was a kind and compassionate lady who thought of others before herself. She was instrumental in the start up of the “Joy of Giving” program at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Brandon and spent many hours volunteering and helping immigrant families get settled in the Brandon Area. She was always happy to have the friends of her sons over to play anytime, and enjoyed all of them, often providing snacks and hot chocolate after a street hockey game. Carol enjoyed travelling and her favourite trip was a family trip where the five of them drove to California and saw many amazing sights along the way. In their retirement, Jim and Carol had spent a few winters in Australia enjoying the climate there, and once again making many friends. She really enjoyed travelling to the east coast of Canada, and had been out there recently to visit her friends one last time. Carol also loved to golf. She took it up later in life but found that it was a great way to spend time outdoors in a beautiful green setting. She took great pride in beating Jim every once in a while on the course. She always carried herself with class and dignity and rarely had a negative word about anything, even through her illness. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

The memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. on December 1, 2014 at St. Paul’s United Church and the inurnment with close friends and family, took place prior at Chapel Cemetery Columbarium in Morden.

The family would like to thank the medical staff and caregivers that provided excellent and compassionate care to Carol in her last few weeks. We would also like to thank Reverend Grahme Speare of St. Thomas for providing comfort to Carol and the Family during this time. Donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Box 2000 Winkler, MB, R6W 1H8.

Our deepest sympathies to you Jim and your family on the loss of a wonderful classy lady. Our thoughts go back to your first born when we spent time together to greet our first born sons. What a great time and then the times at the rink when our boys competed against each other and the times they were together on the same team. God bless and keep you.

We are sad to hear of Carol's passing. I have been trying to find her for several years..tonight was such a surprise when I found her obituary! She was a very good friend who went to Secretarial school in Winnipeg with me. She also was my bridesmaid at our wedding in 1965! She was so beautiful and a very loving person...helped me find a great place to live while I went to school! I'm sorry we couldnt have connected once more...Richard & I will be celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary on May 22. Our love to you and your family!
