Dyck, Nettie

Nettie Dyck (nee Schellenberg)

1931 – 2014

DyckNettiesqOn Monday April 28, 2014 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Nettie Dyck aged 82 years of Morden, MB formerly of Roland was called to her Heavenly home.

She was born to Peter and Katherine Schellenberg on October 17, 1931. Dad forgot which day she was born and registered her on October 18. Nettie dedicated her life to Jesus Christ in 1948 at 17 years of age when she became a baptized member of the Sommerfeld Church. She remained a faithful member until her death. She helped with the activities in the church, attended Bible study with John for many years and when unable to work anymore, they became Prayer Warriors. Devotions remained a part of their lives starting from the day they were married. Nettie loved sports. She coached baseball and took the umpire course and umpired many games. She went to Success College and graduated as a stenographer working at Toronto Trust for two years. She nursed full time and part time until 1991, mainly in obstetrics. She delivered many babies and thought each birth a miracle. Ten of those years were spent working for home care and doing foot care. While doing home care, she worked full time for the Pembina Times. She ran a one line computer until full screen computers were invented. Volunteering played a large part in her life after retirement. She worked for the Thrift shop, fed patients at the hospital, was a founding member of the Friendship Centre and volunteered there for 26 years. She was elected to the Centre board five times resigning for the last time in 2012. She also served on the Manitoba Nurses Board and the Buhler Condo Board twice. Her steadfast faith in her Lord Jesus Christ never wavered. It carried her though many trials and tribulations. She was a cheerful person and worries had no part of her life as she said the Lord would take care of things for her. Her theory was “Why worry about tomorrow when God is already there?” She said she was in a no lose situation. God could either heal her here on earth and if not Heaven was a better alternative. WHAT A PROMISE!

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, John Dyck, her sister, Lena and brother-in-law, Edward. She was predeceased by her only child, David at age 50 in 2006, nine brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service was held on Friday May 2, 2014 at Morden Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with interment at Chapel Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Nettie’s memory to the Morden Sommerfeld Mennonite Church.
