Johan “John” M Wiens

1922 – 2014

wiens john sqPeacefully on Monday January 6, 2014 at Boundary Trails Health Center, John M Wiens aged 91 years of Morden, MB went to be with his heavenly Father.

Johan Wiens, commonly known as John “M” to distinguish himself from his namesake father, was born May 19, 1922 in the Russian village of Nova Prokrowska, Siberia to John J and Helena Wiens. Due to the revolutionary upheaval, his mother and father made the decision to emigrate and in 1927, the family took up residence in Morden, MB. Except for a few years during World War ll, John lived, worked and participated in public life in Morden. On November 28, 1943, he married Martha Born. It was a marriage that was filled with love, hard work and the importance of extended family and church. They had four children born to them and he loved them all. Our father was blessed with a strong physical body and one of his great joys was to see the results of the hard work he had put into any business project. This good health was with him until 2004 when he suffered his first stroke. There was recovery and things were well until January of 2006, when after 62 years of marriage, his love, Martha died; a void that never left him. He was in relatively good health until February 2013 when he suffered a second stroke and was diagnosed with cancer. With compassionate care and the assistance of his physician, Dr. Kevin Convery, Boundary Trails Health Centre staff, Mary Benson and her wonderful Home Care staff and the Morden Handi-van, he was able to return home. With the pampered attention of the staff at the assisted living facility, Homestead South in Morden he had a good quality of life until two weeks before his passing. The family is grateful for their efforts.

Dad was predeceased by his parents, John and Helena, his wife, Martha and one brother, Henry, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. He is survived by four children, sons, Robert (Marlene) of Calgary, AB, David (Ruth) of Kelowna, BC and John (Sharron) of Morden, daughter, Linda (Randy) Earl of Strathclair as well as nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one brother, five sisters and numerous other relatives.

Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday January 10, 2014 at Westside Community Church in Morden with a family interment at Southside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Tabor Home Restricted Fund 230 9th St. South Morden, MB R6M 1Y3.

Dad desired to finish life with his belief in Jesus strong and intact; to see his heavenly Father and to be with Martha. We, as a family are at ease in the assurance that all of the above have come to pass.

Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden in care of arrangements.

We have always respected John for his insight and great sense of humour. He always felt like family through Jake & Erna Bergmann. Our last encounter was at Subway where we shared a table with John and mom, Midge Bergman. Great fun and lots of laughs. What a Blessing to picture your dad in the presence of his Saviour Jesus Christ. We extend our sincere condolences as no one can ever fill the shoes of ones father and you will miss him always. We'll remember his quick wit and cheerful attitude to life. His was a life well lived. With prayers, George & Wendy Penner and Midge Bergman.

I will miss John's smile as he would come around the corner to the front desk everyday. He was so full of worldly knowledge and loved to share tidbits of that with us front desk girls. John will be missed, and it was a pleasure getting to know him this past year.

Bonnie and I wish we could be with you at this time of the loss of your father and grandfather.

Our prayer for your dad is that he receive the reward of his goodness, and see God face to face. We are sure that when your dad accepted our Lord as his personal saviour at his baptism, he was given the pledge of eternal life; we pray that he now be admitted to the company of the saints.

Dear David(Ruth), John(Sharon), Linda(Randy) and Wiens family grandchildren.
Bonnie and I pray you will be consoled in your grief by our Lord, who wept at the death of his friend Lazarus. We pray, too, that you will rejoice in your father's reuniting with your mother and family in heaven.

Our love to you all

We are sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Wiens. Morden has lost a pioneer of the Morden business community. Mr Wiens is one of the men responsible for making the City of Morden what it is today. We will miss his coffee Conversations at McDonald's

I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. Tess and I were away and did not get back to Manitoba until Saturday the 12th. I really wish I could have attended the service because your parents were always the first to offer our family with comfort and support when we needed it.

I have a lot of fond memories of both of your parents and the one comfort in this is that they will be reunited but I'm sure you've been told that many times.

I had some good visits with your dad in the past few years and I always enjoyed them. I really appreciated his friendship.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Bob and Marlene.

It is with happiness we read that Bob's dad lead a good life and mostly loved the Lord.

The promise we have is like Bob's Mom, we shall meet again!

Blessings to you and the family
