Jacob Edwin “Ed” Krahn

krahn ed sq2Suddenly on Saturday, June 15, 2013 Ed Krahn age 63 years of Winkler MB, passed away on his beloved farm.

Dad was born on February 11, 1950 and spent most of his childhood on the family farm in the village of Osterwick. Mom and Dad were married on April 2, 1971 and resided in Morden, MB.  Four years later they started building their dream farmyard, which resulted in them receiving the “Best Rural Grounds” award for the RM of Stanley in 1981 and were further awarded the Manitoba “Best Farm Home Ground” in 1988.

At the age of 18, Dad started farming full time with his father. Mom and Dad later went on to farm on their own, which he continued to enjoy until the time of his passing.  They started their chemical business K-Line Enterprises Ltd. in 1978.  In 1991 they expanded the business by building a fertilizer site north of the farm, where the chemical division was later moved.

In the late 1990s Dad’s childhood dream of owning cattle and horses became reality.  He enjoyed the quiet time with the cattle after a long hard day of work.  In 1997 dad acquired Southland Realty and shortly after attained his Brokers licence.

Dad thrived on the challenge of business and took great pride in doing things right. Even more so, he greatly valued the friendships he made through his businesses, and found many opportunities to reach out to those in need. Value such as honesty, integrity, and the drive to succeed were taught to us by Dad.  He made sure the opportunity to get an education and career were available to his children.

Travelling was another passion of Dad’s, he took the time to ensure everyone got the full experience of vacationing. He found great joy in exploring the gems that few tourists ever got to see.

Grandchildren were a dream of Dad’s and in 2006 he became a grandpa for the first time.  Over the course of the next 6 years Dad and Mom were blessed with a total of four precious grandchildren.  The grandchildren looked forward to seeing him and playing with him, especially when it involved the farm.

Left to remember him with love is his wife, Irene (nee Elias), his daughter, Corissa and Tim Wiebe and children Cole and Alexis, his son, Farrell and Janelle Krahn and their children, Myla and Lucas Jacob.  He is also survived by his mother, Tena Krahn, one sister and two brothers. He was predeceased by his father Jacob J Krahn, his father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law. We love you Dad and will miss you always!
