Helen Friesen (nee Hiebert)

1921 - 2011

Helen_friesen_sq Helen Friesen of Winkler, MB, formerly of Plum Coulee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 13, 2011. Mom was born to John and Margaret Hiebert on the farm in the New Kronsthal area north east of Plum Coulee, Manitoba.

Mom was baptized upon the confession of her faith on May 17, 1940 in the Plum Coulee EMMC church by Rev William Falk. Mom’s faith was very real and we as children saw the many blessings in her life because of her faith in her gracious and loving God. On November 7, 1943 mom married the love of her life, David Friesen. They lived on the farm south of Plum Coulee until 1979, when they moved into Plum Coulee. Mom enjoyed taking care of her farm yard and garden. In 1998 they moved to Winkler.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Elaine and husband, Don Sawatsky, Marlene and husband, Ron Kehler and son, Les and wife, Dianne; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, David D. Friesen in September 2011, daughter, Diane in infancy, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Mom was loved very much and left us with a legacy of love and faith. We will miss her but are rejoicing that she is reunited with Dad and walking on the streets of gold with him.

Memorial service was held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church with interment prior at Plum Coulee Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to Children’s Camps International.
