Susie Friesen (nee Klassen)
1921 -2011
On November 1st, 2011 at 7:00 am, our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, was called to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Susie Friesen, nee Klassen, was born at Roseville School District, Rosenfeld, Manitoba on January 20th, 1921 to Abram and Helena Klassen. Mom was the second youngest of nine children, two of which died in infancy, and was the last surviving member of the Abram Klassen Family. Upon the confession of her faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, she was baptized on May 25th, 1942 and became a member of the Rosenfeld EMM Church. On November 12th, 1944 she was united in marriage to Bernhard (Ben T.) Friesen. They shared this marriage in sickness and health for two days less than 53 years. Mom and Dad made Thames (Bergfeld) their home in 1944 for 33 years, after which they retired to Altona and then to Winkler. Dad passed away in 1997. A year prior to moving to Salem Home, she lived with her daughter, Karen, as her caregiver with the help of her family.
Mom was a quiet, humble person with a spirited personality and a forgiving heart, always a loving compassionate, caregiver with never a complaint, caring for her husband through his many years of illness. As long as she was able to, her way of relaxing was going out and tending to her flowers. She had a love of gardening, sewing, knitting and embroidery. Her children and grandchildren often benefitted from her handiwork. Family and friends alike were blessed with partaking in Mom’s culinary skills, which she passed on to her children. Mom’s strong faith in the Lord and His Word, gave her great strength and comfort through her life. She read her Bible diligently, lived her life accordingly and prayed fervently for her family and friends. On January 7th, 2003 Mom moved to Salem Home. During her stay there, Mom continually expressed her sincere love and appreciation for the staff.
She will always be remembered by daughter, Helen (Ernie) Kehler, son, Larry (Margo) Friesen, daughter, Verna (Don) Lehmann, daughter, Marlene (Wayne) Lynch and daughter, Karen Sitompul. Grandma will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Katherine and Jake Wiebe.
Funeral service was held on Friday November 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with interment prior at Weidenfeld Cemetery.
We the family, want to express our sincere appreciation to all the staff and people who went beyond the call of duty to make her feel like part of the family at Salem Home. We CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH! We will always remember one of Mom’s favorite Bible verses, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Susie’s memory to Back to the Bible Broadcast 40 Centre St. Suite 3 Lower Chatham, ON N7M 5W3.
