Mary Janzen

1921 - 2011

janzen_mary_sqOn Friday October 14, 2011, at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Mary Janzen, age 90 years of Winkler, MB went to her eternal rest.

Mary Janzen was born in Morden on May 30, 1921. She spent her childhood years in Hamburg, near Plum Coulee. Her family moved to Winkler where she was employed at Salem Home, the hospital and at the school. She was baptized in the Mennonite Brethren Church by Rev. H. Voth.

On the death of her parents, she moved to Lions Manor in 1982 and was one of the first to move in. She enjoyed her stay there and made many friends. She took part in the activities at the Senior Centre and particularly enjoyed the tea room and Thursday waffles. She also looked forward to the Bible studies in her church and went as long as she was able. Her hobbies consisted of knitting and embroidery and she was an avid reader. Mary enjoyed travelling and went on many trips including bus tours. Until shortly before she went to the hospital, she would look forward to car rides which were provided by her friends and nieces and nephews.

One of the last good memories was her 90th birthday party where she was able to visit with her family and friends. Aunt Mary will be greatly missed by all of them.

Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents, eight brothers and three sisters as well as her good friend, Mary Loeppky.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church with interment at Winkler Cemetery.
