William “Bill” Janzen

1923 – 2011 

Janzen_Bill_SQOn Thursday morning of March 31, 2011 Bill Janzen passed away in his sleep at the age of 87 years at Salem Home in Winkler, MB where he resided with his wife, Mary. 

William was the fifth son of Jacob and Sara Janzen. He was born at home in the Plum Coulee area on September 12, 1923. Later, the family moved to Rosengart where he also attended school. William wa baptized in the Reinland Rudnerweide Mennonite Church by Bishop Falk in the spring of 1945. In his younger years, he worked as a C.O. during World War 2 and later for his brother, George building sunflower attachments. It was during this time he met and married his wife of 57 years, Mary Dyck. Together they raised a son, Leslie. Dad also worked as a mechanic at Janzen Pontiac until he retired at the age of 64. 

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mary (nee Dyck) of Winkler, son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Mariann Janzen of Morden as well as 2 brothers and 2 sisters and their families and many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by 5 brothers. 

Funeral service was held on Monday April 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church with interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens. 

Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Salem Foundation Inc. or to the charity of one’s choice.
