Katharina Wiebe (nee Dyck)

1918 – 2011

wiebe_katherina2Our mother, Katharina Wiebe aged 92 years of Tabor Home in Morden, MB passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2011. She was tired and wanted to go to her heavenly home to be with Jesus and the angels.

She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her three daughters, Jeanne and Ron Wiebe of Morden, Florence and Ron Dyck of Penticton, BC, Debra and Ken Thiessen of Morden, her son, James and Pat Giesbrecht of Morden, and blended family Maria (Funk) and Jack Martens of Morden, Randy and Sandi Funk of Winnipeg, Bonnie Lynn (Wiebe) and Henry Nikkel of Abbotsford, BC as well as her 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her three sisters, Susana Walker, Mary Purchase and Dora Pekarek and her three brothers, David Derksen, Henry Derksen and Ben Derksen and her many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Her welcoming committee in heaven include her beloved husbands, Henry Giesbrecht (1962), Henry Funk (1985) and John Wiebe (2008), her parents, Susana (nee Neufeld) and Jacob Dyck, her siblings, Jacob Dyck, Cornelius Derksen, Agnes Neufeld, Pauline Derksen and John Derksen.

Mother’s passing will leave a huge hole in the lives of her family. But their hearts are full of gratitude for her gift of such a long and fruitful life. She has left us a legacy that will challenge us to accomplish as much as she did with her volunteer work, her beautiful paintings and her gift of communicating kindness and love to others. She delighted in travel, especially to the Holy Land where ‘Jesus walked’. We are humbled and honoured as we reflect on the enormous sacrifices she made for us throughout her life.

Mother was always keen to know her family history and desired for us to know this history also. In her later years she surprised us with her wit and humour. She also had a special place in her heart for all the ‘little ones’. She had a collection of dolls for the girls to play with and a toy box for the boys and many tea parties for all. Unbeknownst to us, we gave her the best send off on January 1, 2011 when we met as a family for ‘Neu Yahr’s Kuchen’. Most of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were there. She always told her family how much she loved them and left many notes in her Bible and other books expressing this love.

Her Celebration of Life was held on January 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morden Church of God with interment at Hillside Cemetery in Morden.

Our gratitude goes out to the kindness and love she received from her many caregivers at Tabor Home and her loving homecare workers before them. In our mother’s memory, donations may be made to Tabor Home Memorial Fund or the Morden Church of God.

Good-bye, dear mother! Isaiah 55:12 “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace: the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
