Irene Myrtle Daisy Fingas (nee Williams)
1932 - 2011
On Sunday January 9, 2011 at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB, after a courageous battle with cancer, Irene Fingas aged 78 years of Morden, MB passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Irene was born and raised in Hartney, MB. As a young adult she moved to Brandon where she worked for many years and met Gord. They were married on October 6, 1956 in Brandon. They lived in numerous locations in Manitoba and Ontario while Gord worked for the Royal Bank. Irene loved to spend summers golfing and winters curling. She participated in numerous bonspiels, won several provincial championships and even curled in two national championships. Wherever they lived, Irene was involved in community and political affairs and volunteered in her daughters’ activities as well such as figure skating. After they retired in 1988 and settled in Morden, Irene and Gordon enjoyed numerous winter vacations in Texas and Arizona where they loved to golf.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 54 years, Gordon Fingas of Morden; her daughters, Cindy Sykes and Larry Kendall of Winnipeg, Wendy and Rick Gudz of Victoria, BC, 4 precious grandchildren, Ryleigh and Ashtyn Sykes and Chelsey and Keaton Gudz. She is survived by her sister Gwennie Cooper as well as her nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Rose Williams and three sisters, Helen Krupa, Marian Williams and Viola Coulter.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 144 7th St. in Morden.
They family would like to thank all the caring and helpful staff at the Health Sciences Centre who looked after mom over the last three weeks of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s memory to any of the following charities: Cancer Care Manitoba, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Zion Lutheran Elevator Fund, all available at the church.
