Anna “Annie” Wiebe (nee Zacharias)

1924 - 2011

Wiebe_Annie_SqSadly, after a courageous and intense struggle with several health issues, Annie Wiebe passed away peacefully on Friday April 22, 2011 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, at the age of 87 years.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 67 years, Henry J Wiebe of Winkler, her sons, Don and Barb Wiebe of Altona, Frank and Viola Wiebe of Winkler, Ted and Angela Wiebe of Carman, 6 grandchildren, Steven (Sandra), Chris, Joanne (Gavin), Laurie (Warren), Jennifer (Jason) and Tim, (Corissa), as well as 12 great grandchildren. Annie will also be deeply missed by her sister, Eleanor and Walter Penner and their children, extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her infant son, Harold and her parents, Frank and Maria Zacharias.

Annie was born in Lowe Farm on February 29, 1924 and moved to Reichenbach and later to Plum Coulee. In 1944, she married Henry Wiebe and together they moved to a farmyard north of Plum Coulee. In 1959, they moved back to her parent’s place and took over the family farm. They lived there until 2006 when Annie and Henry retired and moved to Winkler. Annie was intimately involved with numerous community and church activities where she was often asked to take a leadership role. Annie enjoyed working with people and getting things done by offering words of encouragement and support as was illustrated in her work as a Cancer Care volunteer. Annie will be remembered for her generous spirit and no one ever left their house hungry or thirsty. Annie loved her family and kept in touch with not only her children but every grandchild and great grandchild. Everyone’s birthday was carefully noted and holiday celebrations were important occasions where everyone was expected to attend.

Memorial service was held at the Winkler Emmanuel Mennonite Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. with interment prior to the service at the Plum Coulee Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors (especially Dr. Marilyn Day and Dr. Cornie Woelk) and nurses at the St. Boniface Hospital for the care and support that was provided. The family extends a sincere thank you to all friends and relatives who visited and spent time with her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Annie’s memory to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Unit Box 2000 Winkler, MB R6W 1H8.
