Anna Hildebrand (nee Sawatzky)

1909 – 2010

Anna Hildebrand SQ copy.jpgEarly in the morning on Monday July 5, 2010 at Salem Home in Winkler MB, Anna Hildebrand, at age 100 years was called peacefully to her eternal home by the Lord.

Anna was born November 17, 1909 to Katerina (nee Neufeld) and Peter Sawatzky in Blumenthal, MB. After she finished her education at age 14 in New Bothwell, mother did housework for the John Sawatzkys. She had many fond memories about working there. Then she worked for the Peter Hildebrands where she met the love of her life, Henry P. Hildebrand and they got married in Sommerfeld. They live in her husband’s lovely parental home. In 1948, they moved to South America for many very challenging years and then came back to Canada and settled in Winkler.

Mother was very organized and she was a very hard worker. She was renowned for being a terrific cook and for being very hospitable and gracious. She fed and housed large numbers of people often on the spur of the moment. Sundays involved family and friends coming over after church for lunch and then for faspa as well. Mother seemed to effortlessly make meals, bake buns, cakes, cookies, clean the house and still had time to work in her beautiful gardens.

She leaves to mourn her passing 5 children, Harry, Ann, Eva, Peter and Tina and their families including 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry P. Hildebrand in 1991; 2 grandsons, 2 daughters-in-law, 5 sisters and 1 brother. We, the whole family will miss her dearly but we rejoice because mother fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith. We celebrate that she is with the Lord. "To Him be the glory forever and ever." 2 Timothy 4:18.

Funeral service was held on Friday July 9, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Reinland Mennonite Church with interment at Winkler Cemetery.

Very heartfelt thanks to Rev. David Friesen for his sincere pastoral concern and the wonderful staff at Salem Home for their thoughtful and loving care given to our mother. Thank you to Rev. Peters, Wiebe Funeral Home, the serving ladies and ushers. Also, thank you for all the cards, flowers and well wishes.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Anna’s memory to the Salem Foundation Inc. 165 15th St. Winkler, MB R6W 1T8.
