Aganetha "Nettie" Enns (nee Peters)

1921 – 2010

EnnsNettieSq.jpgOn Monday morning, August 9, 2010 our Heavenly Father called our loving Mom, Gramma, and Great Gramma to her eternal home.

Nettie Enns was born October 2, 1921 in Schanzenfeld. She was the youngest of 3 children born to Cornelius and Margaret Peters. Mom’s child hood was not an easy one as her mother passed away when she was only 5 years old. She grew up in Schanzenfeld and was baptized June 5, 1941 in the Sommerfeld Church. On May 16 she married Dad (Abe I Enns). Their life together started at Dad’s parents in Meath and after one year they purchased a farm in Schanzenfeld where together they raised their 6 children. They stayed on the farm until 1972 when they moved 1 mile west of Winkler. Mom worked at Eden for 13 years, from 1973 to 1986. She enjoyed her work and made many friends which she had to this day.

Life changed on Dec. 30, 1977 when Dad died suddenly of a severe stroke after only 34 years of marriage. Mom found life difficult after Dad died as she had never paid a bill or done any banking on her own. Mom stayed on the farm until 1984 when she moved to 8th Street in Winkler. In 2000, she moved to 2nd Street and in 2007 to Lion’s Manor where she lived until she was hospitalized in May of 2010. In 1989 Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, it was in its early stages and only required surgery and no other treatment. In December of 2008 her health started to deteriorate and she was hospitalized several times before her last admittance on May 11, 2010. From that time her health slowly deteriorated till her passing on August 9, 2010.

Mom’s faith was very important to her as she was active in church, serving at many weddings and funerals and singing in choirs. She was also very concerned about the spiritual well being of her children and grandchildren.

Nettie Enns was predeceased by her husband, Abe in 1977, her sister, Margaret and brother Cornelius.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, 2 sons Ron and Anne of Winkler, Jim and Janice of Morden, 4 daughters, Helen and Bill Harder of Winkler, Kathy and Bill Wall of Altona, Betty and Doug Epp of Winkler and Kris and Ron Derksen of Winkler; 14 grandchildren, Audrey Harder, Kevin/Sherry Harder, Teresa/Jeremy Zehr, Charlene Wall, Paulene/James Wilson, Roni/Pat Wiebe, Amanda Epp, Tammy and fiancé Josh Fehr, Meagen, Josh and Jordan Enns, Stacy/Trevor Wiebe, Carl and Jen Derksen, and 2 great grandchildren, Alex and Samantha Wiebe. She is also survived by one brother in-law, Daniel Doell.

Funeral service was held on Friday August 13, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Winkler Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with interment prior at Winkler Cemetery.
