On Wednesday July 21, 2010 at Salem Home in Winkler, MB Helena Stobbe aged 95 years went to her eternal rest.

Helena was born on October 27, 1914 at home in the Lichtfeld school district near Herbert, Saskatchewan.  In 1919 the family moved to a farm southwest of Morden.  During these years, Mom attended the Mountain City School.  She also attended the M.B. Church in Morden and enjoyed Jugendverein on Sunday evenings.  At the age of 14, Mom invited Jesus into her heart.  Mom was the eighth child of 11 children born to Abraham and Katherina (nee Pauls) Brandt.  Together with the family they worked very hard on the farm.  Mom has done a lot of plowing with four horses.  In spite of the hard work, Mom enjoyed the farm work, enjoyed school and listening to her father read the Bible to the family.  In 1934, Mom together with her parents moved to Winkler.  Here she began attending the Winkler Bergthaler Church.  On June 9, 1935 she was baptized on the Confession of her faith, knowing that Jesus was her Saviour and was accepted into the fellowship of the Church.  She was baptized by Bishop David Schultz.  On July 7, 1935 she was united in Marriage to Cornelius J. Stobbe.  During the years, 5 sons were born to Mom and Dad, the second born only surviving 2 ½ months.  Mom stayed home to take care of them.

After the boys were grown and gone from home, Mom worked at Salem Home as a nurse’s aide for 7 ½ years.  She then went to work at the Winkler Sewing Factory for the next 7 years.  During her retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed trips to Nebraska, British Columbia, Edmonton and Winnipeg.  Mom also enjoyed crocheting, reading, making food, visiting and attending church.   In 1994, Mom and Dad moved into Lion’s Manor and enjoyed it, but Dad was too weak for her to handle so he was taken to Salem Home where he passed away on February 6th, 1997.  She continued to live alone at Lion’s Manor until she became too weak and was moved to Morris for a short time before she was taken to Salem Home where she passed peacefully in her sleep.

Helena is survived by 3 sons Neil from Winnipeg; Don and Edna of Kelowna, BC; Ed and Kathy of Edmonton, AB; Daughter in law Kay (Art) of Winnipeg; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.  She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius in 1997; son Art in 2006; 1 son in infancy and 1 grandson Rob in 1989.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday July 27, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Winkler Bergthaler Church with interment at Winkler Cemetery.
