Jeanette Kate Sawatzky (nee Tasker)

1934 - 2010

sawatzky jeanette2.jpgUnexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday morning July 3, 2010 at Boundary Trails surrounded by her family, Jeanette passed away. She was a dearly loved wife, Mom, Gramma, Gramma GG, sister, sister-in-law, aunty and friend. 

Jeanette was born in Morden, MB on September 8, 1934 at the Freemason Hospital to Charles and Olive (nee Fursman) Tasker. She attended school in Morden and completed one year at the convent in St. Jean Baptiste. October 20, 1951, Jeanette married John "Scortch’ Sawatzky, the love of her life. They started their married life in Winkler and moved to Dryden for 3 years before settling in Morden in 1956. 

In 1961, Scortch and Jeanette purchased the Pembina Esso Service Station and Restaurant, Jeanette was the manager and head cook of the restaurant until it was sold in 1970. In 1975, she was hired as the manager of the Morden Collegiate Cafeteria and was employed at the school until 1980. Jeanette completed a course in Palliative Care and worked as a care giver when possible. 

Jeanette was an active member of the Morden Kinette Club for many years and held the position of President. She was an active member of the St. Thomas Anglican Church Ladies Auxiliary for 50+ years as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary and received her 25 year Membership Pin. 

Over the years, Jeanette enjoyed socializing with friends and relatives, weekly visits with the neighbourhood Coffee Club and fish-fries with the 9th Street Gang. Her hobbies included knitting, embroidery work, crafting, baking, reading, and bingo. 

She leaves to mourn her passing

her loving husband and best friend, John "Scortch" Sawatzky of Morden, 4 children; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandson as follows: Karla and Colin Hammond of New Zealand; Wendy Gravelle (Dayna) of Morden, Doug and Darlene (Carly, Joey) of Morden, Jenith and Lindsay Braun (Leslee and Jeremy, Robyn, Shaun and great grandson Josh, Jarred) of Winnipeg. Jeanette is survived by her two sisters, Sheila and Robert Strachan of North Vancouver, BC and Charlene (Bruce dec) Adams of Burlington, ON and their families as well as her dear cousin, Georgina and Randy Randall of Winnipeg.  

Funeral service was held on Thursday July 8, 2010 at St Thomas Anglican Church with interment at Chapel Cemetery in Morden.
