Barke Gertrude SQ.jpgOn Friday, January 15, 2010 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Gertrude Barke was called to her eternal home at the age of 79.

Gertrude was born on August 1, 1930 at Wiesenthal, Poland and baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She immigrated to Canada on January 9, 1948.

She leaves to mourn her passing, three daughters and two sons, Linda and Doug Griffin of Darlingford, Delilah and Glen Kippen of Winnipeg, Larry and Gisele (Girardin) of Winnipeg, Alvin Barke of Thornhill and special friend, Colleen Brown, Jo-Anne Checkley of Nanaimo, BC; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Larus Gislason of Winnipeg as well as nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Eric in 1994, four sisters and one son-in-law.

Funeral service was held on January 21, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Morden with Rev Alex Klages officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Cemetery.

Words cannot express our sincere thanks for the many visits and support given to mom during her illness by her friends and neighbours. Also thank you for the many phone calls, gifts of food and offers of help at the time of our mother’s passing. A special thanks to Dr. Woelk, Palliative Care Unit and homecare for the personal attention mom received. Thanks to Rev. Alex Klages, Wiebe Funeral Home and the Ladies Auxiliary for the lunch they provided.
