David H. Friesen

1913 - 2009 

FriesenDaveSQ.jpgOn Wednesday December 2, 2009 at Boundary Trails Health Centre David Friesen aged 96 years of Winkler, MB formerly of Plum Coulee passed away peacefully. 

David was born in Plum Coulee on April 28, 1913 to CD and Anna Friesen. He was the second oldest of five children who survived infancy. He worked at his father’s John Deere dealership from 1936 and eventually took ownership in 1950. In 1960, he started Dave’s tire and Gas which specialized in bulk fuel and tire sales. Although, he sold it to his son, Gerry in 1984, he still maintained customer service until he and Eva retired to Winkler in 2002. They took advantage of the free time by travelling extensively by car and taking bus tours all over North America. 

He leaves to mourn his passing 1 daughter, Judy and (Chick) Charles Zarinits of Apple Valley, CA; 2 sons, Percy and Flo of Calgary, AB, Gerry and Cathy of Plum Coulee; 1 daughter-in-law, Judy (Bob) Friesen of Calgary, AB; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He is survived by his younger brother, Ed Friesen and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by first wife and mother of his five children, Justina (nee Dyck) in 1955; second wife, Mary (nee Hildebrand) in 1979 and third wife, Eva (nee Bergman) in 2008; 2 sons, Rodney Stephen in 1967 and Robert "Bob" Lawrence in 2007. 

Funeral service was held on Saturday December 5, 2009 at 11:00 am at Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church and interment followed at the Plum Coulee Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s memory to the Plum Coulee Bergthaler Mennonite Church.
