Harold George Fast

1932 – 2009

FastHaroldSQ.jpgOn Saturday August 8, 2009 the Lord released Harold Fast aged 76 years formerly of Rosenfeld, MB from this earth to join his family, friends, and a host of other believers in heaven. 

Harold was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour in April, 1952, and became a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Winnipeg. He also married Anne Schellenberg in that year.  After moving to Rosenfeld he became a member of the Rosenfeld Bergthaler Mennonite Church and later, when living in Winkler, he became a member of Winkler Grace Mennonite Church.

Harold’s work world consisted of 25+ years as Chief Administrative Officer of the Town of Winkler. He was also a businessman in Rosenfeld for 14 years. He also enjoyed various community involvements and especially enjoyed serving on various church Boards and committees including Church Moderator and Deacon. After retirement he spent 2 years as a volunteer with MCC in Akron, Pennsylvania, 3 months as an MCC volunteer in Texas, and then on the board of MCC Manitoba. 

After retirement he enjoyed travelling, reading, fishing, walking, and involvement with several Boards and committees and other volunteer service opportunities. 

His children and grandchildren were the light of his life and a special support and blessing during his life in sickness and in health.

Harold is survived by and will by greatly missed by his six children, Shirley and John Banman (Michael & Karla, Cristi & Osmond Jerome, and great grandson, Theo); Donna and Errol Pelser (Nathan & Andre, Jodi & fiancée Nick Vaney); Bob and Dale Fast (Errin, Heather & Matthew Wirzba); Roma and Al Maronese (Jessica, Andrew, Luisa); David Fast & Tannis Redekopp (Meghan, Julia); Trish and Murray Bobrowski (Laura, Mitchell). He is also survived by one sister, Hilda (Ed) Funk and brother-in-law, Dave Friesen. 

Harold was predeceased by his first wife Anne Schellenberg Fast in 1999, and infant son Donald in 1954, his parents Henry and Luise Fast, brother, Henry Fast and sister, Helen Friesen; his second wife, Anne Wiebe Fast also predeceased him in December 2005.  

A celebration of the life of Harold Fast took place on August 11, 2009 at the Grace Mennonite Church in Winkler.  2 Timothy 4:7&8. Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift.
