Cornelius Richard Enns

Cornelius Richard Enns

1946 - 2009

Cornie Enns.jpgOn Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 Cornie Enns aged 63 years of Winkler, MB passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Victoria General Hospital.

Dad was born in Winkler on January 18, 1946 to Cornelius and Anna (nee Elias) Enns.  He spent his childhood on his parents’ farm near Schanzenfeld.  He was diagnosed with Polio at the age of six and spent the following years in and out of the hospital.  His hobbies growing up included spending time with his favourite dog Nipper, driving and fixing cars.

Dad was baptized upon confession of his faith at the Sommerfelder Church.  As he was able to do less physically, he spent much more time reading and grew closer in his walk with the Lord.

He married Susan Klassen on July 9, 1978 and moved to Winkler.  They were blessed with two daughters.  Dad loved to work with wood, and spent most of his working years involved in cabinetry.  He enjoyed taking vacations with his family.  The most recent trip he enjoyed and often talked about was to the East Coast in 2005 with mom and his daughters and their husbands.  Dad was always willing to help his family with anything including many renovations, housing projects and landscaping.

After dad retired, he spent his leisure time gardening, reading, and enjoying the company of the family dog Shadow.  The effects of his Polio continued to challenge his health, resulting in a lengthy hospital stay in 2007.  His health began to deteriorate and he spent time in and out of the hospital for the past two years with his last stay beginning March 30, 2009.  Dad fought a good fight, until the Lord decided it was time for him to come home.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Susan; two daughters, Charissa and Vic Neufeld of Winkler and Jaclyn and Joey Stoesz of Winkler; and one grandson Seth Neufeld.  Seth was very special to Grandpa, and Thursday nights were always the highlight of his week.  Seth always had lots of smiles for Grandpa, and had a special good bye for him one of the last times Seth saw him in the hospital.  He is also survived by four sisters, Annie and Jake Wiebe of Morden, Justina and Harry Braun of Altona, Helen and Cornie Hamm of Winkler, Mary and Jake Zacharias of Morden as well as one sister-in-law, Nettie and Ray Reimer of Steinbach and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents, father-in-law, brother-in-law, two nieces, and one nephew.

Funeral service was on Thursday April 16, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Winkler EMM Church with interment following at Westridge Memorial Gardens.

We will miss you Dad and look forward to seeing you again one day.  Thank you to all the support staff and Doctors at Boundary Trails and Victoria General Hospital.  We would also like to thank the Winkler EMMC, Wiebe Funeral Home and Family and Friends for all of your support.
