1918 – 2009

Dorval DorisSQ.jpgDoris Dorval passed away peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital on Friday October 16, 2009 with family at her side.

Born July 6, 1918 at Sunderland, England to Harry and Anna Cooper, she had the misfortune of loosing her mother when she was six and was subsequently raised by her mother’s sister, Auntie Sally. Her formative years were as an accountant/cashier and at the outbreak of the war she was employed in payroll of a large aircraft plant. During this time she met Percy Dorval serving with the Canadian Army. In Nov. 1950, Doris immigrated to Canada and married Percy on Dec.2, 1950. She lived with her family in the Dunston community until 2000 then retired to Morden. In July 2007, she moved to Delta, B.C. to live with her daughter and family.

Doris leaves to mourn her daughter, Sally (Max) Moloney, granddaughter, Heather Moloney and grandsons, Michael and his wife Heather, Matthew and Scott Moloney, all of the Delta area. Also left are her sister, Molly King in England and special friend, Hazel Sandercock of Morden.

She was predeceased by her husband, Percy in 1980, her son, James 1993, Auntie Sally, in 2001, her parents and her brother, Peter.

Growing up in England she loved playing tennis, was the goal keeper for field hockey, and became a proficient golfer, a sport she dearly loved and she was more than willing to help anyone improve or learn to play the game. Mum was a member of the Morden Golf and Country Club executive for a number of years. She enjoyed travelling with her golf friends to numerous tournaments. She had been active with numerous associations including Dunston Community Club, Clegg community, Kidney Foundation, CNIB, Morden Legion and Morden Friendship Center. Mum LOVED to bake and sent many a delicious pie or cake to the local bake sales. Mum enjoyed playing cards she spent many hours at the Friendship Center playing crib and whist. Mum and Hazel, "the Golden Girls", as they were affectionately known, won numerous crib tournaments at the Legion, we are all sure they had some Secret Code. She still enjoyed her desserts especially an ice cream cone which brought a special smile to her face. Mum had a great sense of humor and often caught us off guard with her little quirps---. "Jeepers" and "I’m Not Amused!" will always be remembered. Mum was very Gracious and Caring and will be remembered by us as "Queen Mum!" We love you and no tears.

Viewing will be on Friday from 1:00 until 9:00 pm at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, 1050 Thornhill St. in Morden. Funeral service will be held on Saturday October 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Church 353 Thornhill St. in Morden with interment to follow at Dunston Cemetery.
