Esther Friesen (nee Kehler)

1941 - 2008

Friesen EstherFP.jpgEsther Friesen, 66, of Morden MB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, after a lengthy battle with cancer and its complications.

Diagnosed with lymphoma in 1980, Esther underwent treatment and recovered to lead a full and healthy life with her husband and three children. She thrived in her chosen career as a homemaker, determined to see her sons grow up. She struggled with cancer again in 1983, 1985 and 1991; at which time, after being anointed with oil, she was miraculously healed, and was granted more time to enjoy being a grandmother.  In February of 2007, the cancer returned, and by March 2008, Esther’s condition began to deteriorate; although her body weakened, her spirit remained strong. Throughout life and illness, Esther was a faithful prayer warrior and an example of faithful service to her Lord Jesus Christ.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 44 years, Max (A.R.) Friesen; three sons, Robert and Monica (Fehr), Cameron and Shelley (Elias) and Lindsay; six grandchildren, Jessica, Alayna, Riley, Madeleine, Evan and Gwendolyn.  She is also survived by her siblings: Peter (Anne) Kehler, Abe Kehler, John (Tina) Kehler, (Margaret Kehler), Eva (John) Doerksen, and Helen (Bryan) Howell, and their families.

Esther was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Abram and Helena (nee Loeppky) Kehler, one brother, Ernie Kehler, and sister-in-law, Mary Kehler.

Funeral service was held Friday, July 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Morden Mennonite Church with Rev. Harold Hildebrand-Schlegel and Pastor John Neufeld officiating.  Interment took place at Hillside Cemetery.

The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Menzies, Cheryl Penner and the excellent doctors, nurses and staff at BTHC as well as the Oncology staff at Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre.  The family extends their thanks to the physical therapists, chiropractors, and massage therapists who have cared for Mom so thoughtfully throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the at the Boundary Trails Health Centre Cancer Unit Box 2000 Winkler, MB R6W 1H8.
